FRANKFURT, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Germany's energy regulator has suspended the approval process for a major new pipeline bringing Russian gas into Europe, throwing up a new roadblock to the contentious project and driving up regional gas prices.

This is big news because they had to choice between either Ukraine or gas pipeline it seems like they chose Ukraine it was to important even more than the Gas which is understandable the fall of Ukraine would be institutional crisis

German regulator pauses certification of Nord Stream 2 pipeline

Germany's network regulator said Tuesday that it paused its certification of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline due to an issue with the company's license under German law, the Associated Press reports.

Why it matters: The pause throws a wrench in the approval process of the already contentious pipeline — which would transport Russian gas to Europe under the Baltic Sea — and caused regional gas prices to rise.

Driving the news: "Following a thorough examination of the documentation, the Bundesnetzagentur concluded that it would only be possible to certify an operator of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline if that operator was organized in a legal form under German law," the regulator said in a statement, per AP.

  • The news of the pause triggered an increase in natural gas markets in Europe, including in the U.K., where natural gas futures rose more than 9%, according to the New York Times.
  • The certification process will remain on pause "until the main assets and human resources have been transferred to the subsidiary," per AP.
The big picture: The U.S. and Ukraine have both opposed the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which was completed this year but has not yet been in operation.

  • The pipeline is owned by Russian-controlled gas company Gazprom with investment from several European countries.
  • President Biden earlier this year waived sanctions on firms involved in the pipeline, which in 2019 stalled its progress, frustrating Germany and the European Union, Axios' Jonathan Swan reports.
  • Seeking to mitigate fears from members of Congress and Eastern European countries over Russia potentially using the pipeline against Ukraine, Biden and German Chancellor Angela Merkel reached a deal in July.
  • Per the agreement, the U.S. and Germany will intervene if Russia tries to "use energy as a weapon," set up a "green fund" to help Ukraine modernize its energy sector, and seek to ensure Russia continues to pay Ukraine around $3 billion in gas transit fees annually.

All these countries you mentioned will not interfere especially China. The rest you mentioned are just irrelevant. EU will fight here because they will have no other way around it really. Russia is knocking on the door. You either fight or fold nothing inbetween really. If Ukraine is defeated majority of East Europe will surrender to Russia and change bloc for their own safety and EU becoming defunct and than collapse entirely as result of that. They can't let this happen at any cost hence they will stand and fight because they would have no other options here... Or watch Ukraine reclaimed by Moscow and watch the EU collapse as result of that outfall handing majority of sovereign states to Russia.. Next tomorrow after the fall of Ukraine.. The Kremlin line will be long due to countries waitng to submit to Russia. Finland, the 3 Baltic states, Poland, Romania, the 7 balkan states, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Greece will all hand their surrender applications in person in Moscow.

France and Germany will deploy troops and for the first time since WW2 They will deploy more than 25-50k each to not be caught in sleep by Russia

Nato is in Russian backyard, not the other way around, this clearly means Russia will not back off, they took Crimea and nothing was done except sanctions. Russia was weak during the war on Iraq and Afghanistan and then west sponsored war against Libya started, Russia became anti war but didn't do anything but when it came to Syria they got involved militarly, same will happen if anyone attacks Iran. These 2 countries and Iraq will 100% send militiamen or even armed forces to fight with Russia against Nato. If Russia is defeated then China, Iran, North Korea are on the next hitlist so they will definitely back Russia.

The world has changed since 911. Nato power has shrunken and Russia/China and allies have become alot stronger as proven by Crimea, Syria, Azerbaijan wars.

Why you even mentioning irrelevant elements in this context such as lowly militiamen from Iraq what is the matter with you? They won't move an inch these insignificiant elements nor can they do anything if NATO unleashes their allies in the area Turkey, Azerbaijan, Qatar, Oman, Sudan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel, Tunisia, UAE and Morocco... Admittedly the US is more connected in the area with more powerful allies hence no militia would react to avoid miscalculation

They're just going to **** themselves over LMAO These Euros are fucking useless at this point. LOL

China will support Russia materially and hedge against European and American sanctions against Russia.
I doubt that the USA will be involved in this conflict because they are busy now.

Am just saying Russia would have the man power support from its 3 allies, its very important in war, aswell as Chinese and other nation backing. Lol i am mentioning irrelevant elements and then your mentioning Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Morocco, UAE etc lol.

Nato is very strong ofcourse but I don't believe they will start a direct war with Russia.

China will sit this out because other areas will be freed up don't forget our theater first and foremost is in the east cleaning will be done here rest assured. What happens in the west is not China's priority in the short term but exclusively the east to begin with

100%. I wouldn't be surprised if its alot more, if Russia is finished then whos next on the list? Nato is very strong but China/Russia are very smart.

If Russia and NATO go to war in Eastern Europe, China will probably seize the moment to take Taiwan.
No, we can get something more important than Taiwan.
As long as China does not agree to participate in sanctions, Russia cannot fail. A long war with Russia will completely destroy Europe and the United States.
