Ukraine President Tells Poles He Wants EU, NATO Membership

Ukraine s non-aligned status leads to dire consequences - Turchynov| Ukrinform

KYIV, May 29 /Ukrinform/. Ukraine has no alternative to joining the EU and NATO.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov stated this at the 8th Kyiv Security Forum, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Let's speak honestly, and, by the way, it is stipulated in the strategy [the National Security Strategy of Ukraine], we have no other alternative to European and Euro-Atlantic integration. This is a fact. The format of non-alignment has led to present-day dire consequences," he said.

Turchynov stressed that Ukraine needed to achieve the highest standards in order to join the EU and NATO. However, according to the Secretary, the ongoing military conflict with Russia gives "little chance" that the Alliance countries "will accept Ukraine and assume military responsibility for the actions of Russia on our territory."

In Odessa, in the framework of the second meeting "Black Sea-Baltic Forum for Security and Cooperation" was held scientific seminar "Architecture of modern security of the Black Sea Basin and NATO's role in its preservation."As speakers participated in this meeting were representatives of diplomatic missions of Georgia, Turkey, Slovakia and Romania, military experts, public figures, students of the leading universities of Odessa, as well as students of the Faculty of Naval Forces of Odessa National Maritime Academy.During the seminar exchanged views on security in the Black Sea region, preserve and maintain stability of the Black Sea. Participants of the dialogue to form a common position against aggression, the spread of hidden conflicts, terrorism and violations of the Black Sea security architecture.

Tuesday, June 9. VINNYTSIA — Ukrainian AF Command hosted a meeting with NATO experts in the framework of the NATO Trust Fund on Modernization of the Ukrainian C4 structures. The experts group was headed by Mr. Keith Keller, Defence Investment Division, NATO International Secretariat.

The aim of this meeting is to visit military command and control authorities, hold consultations with the representatives of related state authorities on realization of the pilot project within the NATO Regional Project on safety of air traffic.

Maj. Gen. Artur Artemenko, Chief of Staff, Ukrainian AF Command, chaired the Ukrainian group.

Guests examined activities and existing system of control of air situation at the AF Command Post. The parties discussed the issue of realization of the pilot project within the NATO Trust Fund on Modernization of the Ukrainian C4 structures.

NATO experts had opportunity to tour the Museum of the Ukrainian Air Force.

During the briefing, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine familiarized with the structure and features of MTSMB, as well as issues that National Guard soldiers spend Ukraine during Ukrainian-American exercises "Fearless Guardian - 2015".

At the head of the Academy of the Army Lieutenant General Andrei Pavel Tkachuk Parubiy attended sessions of medical training and tactics, and talked with guards. In conversation he thanked them for conscientious performance of combat missions in the area of ATO and gave the boys tactical backpacks and sports suits.

Visiting the town of Central, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also met with representatives of the Canadian Forces that from September this year will begin training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the face of the Canadian military, he thanked all the people of this country for their support and provide necessary assistance to the national army.

Thursday, June 25. LVIV OBLAST — The International Peacekeeping and Security Centre of the Land Forces Academy hosted the logistics training course given by UK instructors.

During 10 days, the UK experts shared practical experience and logistics secrets with their Ukrainian peers.

“We explained the British approach to logistics, as well as demonstrated how our servicemen carry out logistic operations at the level of brigade and division. Then we worked out in practice tactical convoys,” UK expert told.

Ukrainian servicemen shared their experience gained in the ‘anti-terror’ operation with UK experts.

“We asked many questions to our peers and described real conditions. They were in our life and the UK logisticians were surprised with our level of training,” Lt. Col. Oleh Tymkiv said.

Thursday, July 2. KYIV — Mr. Yuriy Husyev, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, held talks with Polish Ministry of Defence delegation led by Mr. Maciej Jankowski, Under-Secretary (Deputy Minister) of State in the Ministry of National Defence of Poland.

Mr. Yuriy Husyev thanked the Polish party for political support and practical assistance, particularly, in military medicine: “We’re grateful for military medical reforms due to which we move towards the NATO standards. It’s our primary task. This important job will help us to save lives of the Ukrainian soldiers.”

The Polish party presented the plan of training of the Ukrainian specialists in Poland. There will be two working groups consisting of two or three military experts from Ukraine. One group will learn military tactical medicine; the other group will learn clinical medicine.

Mr. Maciej Jankowski remarked that the first group would be expected to start the training on July 13-14.

Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine expressed hope that the training of the Ukrainian specialists would mean experience exchange and contribution to implementation of the NATO standards in military medicine of Ukraine.

The parties signed the Letter of Intent on establishment of JWG on reforms of medical support system and educational cooperation.

New agreements with NATO let equipment to Ukraine - Defense Ministry| Ukrinform

KYIV, July 2 /Ukrinform/. The NATO-Ukraine agreement on support and supplies and the memorandum on consultations within the Partnership for Peace program, ratified by the Verkhovna Rada on July 1, will let start the efficient use of the NATO trust funds. In particular, the agreements provide for launch of equipment and machinery deliveries.

Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister for European Integration, Ihor Dolhov stated this within the NATO-Ukraine Civic League meeting in Kyiv on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"These two legal acts removed the last practical and legal obstacles and let start prompt supplies of equipment and machinery, necessary for implementation of various projects," Dolhov said.

The Deputy Minister noted that it referred to the weapons and equipment under the projects, implemented by the NATO trust funds.

According to him, one of the ratified instruments provides for use of the trust fund in command, control and communications fields.

Friday, July 3. KYIV – The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine hosted a Meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee on Activities of Foreign Advisors at the Ministry of Defence and General Staff of Ukraine chaired by Mr. Ihor Dolgov, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European Integration.

Mr. Mark Opgenorth, Deputy Director, NATO Liaison Office to Ukraine, Lt. Col. Norbert Rogsch, Advisor on Defence Planning, Col. Miroslav Pelikan, Advisor on Logistics and Standardisation, Col. Bela Teczely, Advisor on Development of Information Systems, Ms. Katarzhyna Fridrich, Advisor on Security Policy, Mr. Martin Linhart, Advisor on Security Sector Reforms, Lt. Col. Leonardo Diaz, Advisor on Civil Military Cooperation, Lt. Col. Mustafa Aydinli, Advisor on Cyber security, and Ms. Oksana Osadcha, Aide to Director, NATO Liaison Office to Ukraine also attended the event.

The parties discussed expert assistance of foreign advisors at the Ministry of Defence and General Staff of Ukraine and discussed the ongoing situation in the east of Ukraine.

Deputy Minister thanked the experts for their support and assistance provided for reforms implementation.

U.S.-Ukrainian cooperation to be deepened | Міністерство оборони України
Thursday, July 09. LVIV OBLAST — U.S. Gen. Raymond Odierno, Army Chief of Staff, stated it while visiting the International Peacekeeping and Security Centre.

Gen. Raymond Odierno inspected the personnel of the 173rd U.S. Airborne Brigade participating in the Fearless Guardian 2015.

The members of delegation observed the training and toured the training camp.

“The military range has favorable conditions for training of the Ukrainian servicemen and organization of international military cooperation. Upon return to the USA I’ll report on necessity to continue and deepen the U.S.-Ukrainian security cooperation. I’m impressed by dedication of your soldiers and officers during training and combat operations,” he underlined.

The activities of international military cooperation with participation of U.S., Canadian and other countries’ experts are aimed at increasing the defence readiness of Ukraine and professional level of the Ukrainian servicemen.

Particularly, on July 20, the U.S.-Ukrainian Rapid Trident 2015 exercise will kick off. Servicemen of 17 countries are expected to participate in it. Canadian instructors will coach the Ukrainian servicemen.

Today, July 9, a meeting of Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Gusev with representatives of the embassies of NATO and the EU, accredited in Ukraine. Separately discussed the introduction of electronic trading direction for the rear and access of foreign companies to purchase necessary equipment and equipment for the Armed Forces.During the event, Konstantin Lyesnik informed about the reform and innovation Minstestva and spoke about the needs that are necessary for improvement in the provision. And this is our specific contribution to the integration of Ukraine into NATO and providing our soldiers, especially those who are protecting the freedom and independence of Ukraine in the ATO, shape and quality equipment World - stated Yuriy Gusev.

Also during the meeting discussed cooperation in military-medical field, as well as possible assistance on the part of NATO to Ukraine in the form of equipment and drugs that are not certified in Ukraine.Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine thanked the foreign embassies for their support and significant practical assistance provided by the Armed Forces and looked forward to deepening cooperation between Ukraine and NATO.

July 17. Division General Stasys Raštikis Lithuanian military school in Kaunas twenty Ukrainian soldiers were given an international instructor course completion certificates. Five-week course for warrant officers Ukraine Lithuania organized the mediation of NATO, taking into account Ukraine's needs.

Today, July 20, at the International Peacekeeping and Security Centre of the Army Academy named after hetman Sagaydachnogo inaugurated its massive Ukrainian-American command and staff exercise involving troops "Rapid Trident - 2015".This year a record number of participants in training - more than 1,800 soldiers from 18 countries. Military units, except Ukraine and the United States sent the Kingdom of Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Turkey.

During the execution of state anthems of Ukraine and USA flags raised on masts both countries. Flag of Ukraine raised the soldiers of the Army Academy named after hetman Sagaydachnogo and the National Guard, who are involved in education as a part of the Ukrainian contingent, and the flag of the United States - the soldiers 173 th Parachute Airborne Brigade Command of the Army in Europe.Principal Investigators training - from the Ukrainian side colonels Alexander Sivak, and the US - Colonel Fred Renzi, made a detour units participating countries and welcomed the start of military exercises.
