UK to supply Qatar with Eurofighter jets in billion-dollar arms deal

Why are they getting gear that the Saudis are completely familiar with?

Try to see the big picture. It has nothing to do with what weapons! who have them!.
In larger perspective, a security fear has been created by west among the arab world countries and pitted them against each other....then they have divided these arab states w.r.t who (in west) will milk whom!...USA - Saudi Arab, Europe - Qatar...

.
Quick question. Who will fly these aircraft?

Going from 12 Mirage 2000 to 24 Rafale, 24 Typhoon, and 72 F-15QA is quite a jump.

The Arabs are buying what Pakistanis are dreaming about.
Better start working harder, so You can afford your dreams.
Don't be talking shit. Pakistan has been working on its own JF-17 for some time now.
Stop listnening to those guys who think some countries have alien level tech and we can't grow from our own resources.
i thought they were dreaming of sukhois.

Lol funny but true. if their leaders were as dumb as some of them claim on here, then Qatar won't have the highest GDP per capital in the world , one of the largest sovereign wealth funds on earth, provide all social amenities to its citizens (many for free), people won't be migrating there from the region and the world for a job opportunity/better life, they won't have the highest living standards in the Muslim world, etc etc.
It's funny seeing people who come from countries who can only dream to be like Qatar or gulf states calling their leaders stupid/dumb. Lol.
I'll say so far gulf states leaders have done very well for their country, far better than others who criticise them day and night. Lol

Problem isnt buying planes

Its that the arabs only now are beginning to understand the vital importance of their own defence industry or hook ups with other muslim countries to produce the weapons they need

They can fund their defence industries in the hundreds of billions, with thst amount they should have their own plsnes and ships, missiles etc

If Pakistan with so much adversity can build SLCMs, MIRV capable missiles, cruise missiles
Our own JVs to produce jet fighters, tanks etc then what the hell have the arabs been doing with billions

They are beginning to change, but slowly

Arabs are getting played and so are we (Pak-India)!!

USA sells F15s to Saudis and F16s to UAE, then sell F15s to Qatar to counter them. UK sells Typhoons to Saudi, offer them to UAE and now sell them to Qatar.

Similarly, France sells Augusta 90b subs to Pak and then Scorpion subs to India. USA sells F16s and AH1Z to us then F16s and Apaches to India.

You really don't see what they are doing!?

This is the best plane they could get, its a hell of a plane ET .

Very good plane - just ask the Saudis who also bought it and may use against Qatar.

This deal is nothing new and was under negotiations along with Rafael in early 2016. After the Rafael deal, BAE was still certain that Qatar will acquire Eurofighters to boost its defence partnership with the UK.

Qatar has been spending on strengthening its defences even before the current turmoil with its Arab neighbours. Last year, Qatar had signed a deal with MBDA consortium, which is jointly owned by Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo-Finmeccanica, to install a defense system along its coast to help stop hostile ships entering its territorial waters. The coastal defence system is to utilize Exocet and Marte ER missiles.

After the fall out with neighbours, it was only natural that Qatar went ahead with the Eurofighter deal and has bought its way into a higher level of protection and in doing so, get a boost in defence ties with the west. A comforting notion for a rich but tiny monarchy which certainly can afford some deadly toys, more so, since push has turned into shove.

What, noone ?
Oh, there is one hand...
Yes,... No, ... the bathroom is down the corridor...

Who would like an f-22 raptor? But not everyone can have one.

what's blueballing you?
You come here talking shit on what you don't even know about.

$7.5 to $8.0 billion U.S. depending on weapons and maintenance support. The PAF can't buy such things because Pakistan doesn't have enough money to get approvals on first glance, and its gov't can't be bothered to diplomatically press for approvals and credit to get such deals through the door.

Malaysia shelved its program for the time being. I think BAE's focus is on Belgium, Finland and Poland, though a follow-on from Saudi Arabia and/or Oman wouldn't hurt.

Why can't PAF like Navy ask for a 8-10 year payment plan to buy these fighters ? And by reducing aircraft support to 5 years will reduce the cost further more .. If Navy can get a 5 billion worth deal for 8 sub's why can't paf do the same ?

shut up mate, it was discussed in pdf that pakistan is interested to get sukhoi until russia denied any intention to sell sukhois to pakistan.

.
the rafale to replace the mk2
the f15 as all on one strike fighter
the typhoons as an air superiority fighter

with the gcc against qatar they need to defend them-self the typhoons would be perfect. most likely it will come with aesa's and the meteor.
the meteors on the rafale are single Chanel and cant be given mid-course updates as opposed to the typhoons and the gripen which can give mid-course updates

What capabilities Qatar has which KSA can't field in terms of weapons?? KSA have same tech already with in larger numbers.

All of that kind of stuff is just speculation and crap. Those same "discussions" on PDF happen for almost every aircraft.

Yes, but the speculation is regarding PAF, and are self created.
The speculations regarding IAF are similar,
but at least there are some fragments of facts in the worst speculations.
For PAF, the only fact based speculations would be JF-17 Block III features.

I really doubt more new F-16s are coming.
Will PAF go for the record of purchasing the F-16 with most flight hours, as usual?
Suchoi, clearly no.
F-35: hahahahahaaaah.
Gripen: nope.
Eurofighter tranche 1: would be real stupid....
Eurofighter tranche 3, cost overrun.
Rafale: Mais NON!
J-20: not for export
J-31: Wait for it.... WAIT for it.
Only JF-17 discussions make sense.

Indians have more fun!
The Indian Government makes sure they can squeeze out fun for years, if not decades.

It is good for Qatar and the GCC, since Qatar, with or without this current ruler will be back to where it belongs, quite soon..
