my Taya did this journey in the 70's! The world has completely changed since then. Heck when you visit potohar region you see soo many Ford transit still functioning from the 70's and 80's. I wonder if Ford in detroit are aware of it? I doubt it.

Yeah when I visited Attock,Jhelum, and Ayubia a decade ago I was suprised that Fords Vans were all over, I always wonder how did Fords were common then I researched that Brit Paks until the late 1990s use to drive to Pakistan and sell them there it stopped because of the advent of Japanese cars and high import taxes

Not sell but rather give them to their relatives so they could earn a living. Japanese auto gained roots slowly and they came mid-late 80's. These Fords are still functioning because they are very simple compared to modern computer aided vans. Most of the Transit you see are were made in the Ford transit factory 10 minutes from my house. unfortunately the factory is no more but their product from 40 years ago is still going strong.

The Ford Transit back in those days (the Mark I) was a Ford of Europe product, built in the Langley plant. The much revised Transit and smaller Transit Connect came to NA only a few years ago.

Those Transit Connects and Transit are assembled by Ford Turkey in Bursa

Yes, and marketed here. The Connect passenger version is shipped minus its rear seats to get tax breaks. The Mark 1 never sold here.

Yes, but Ford of Europe was pretty much independent back in those days. For example, they had the Capri compared to the US Mustang, with very little crossover products. Ford of Australia was similarly different, with their Falcon being a good example. Combined platform experiments, such a some versions of the Escort struggled.

That I don't know. The engine was their weakest point without doubt especially the old Ford.

I asked a dude who owned one in Pakistan he retrofitted his with a Isuzu Diesal engine he did like 2 times and its a tank

These were meant for Britain and continental Europe. You have much larger Ford vans than these Transit vans.

Ford had a presence once in Pakistan during the Ayub days I heard
