UK threatens to ban PIA flights over passport scandal

LONDON/ISLAMABAD: The British government has reportedly threatened to place a ban on all PIA flights over reports of tens of Afghan nationals illegally flying into the Kingdom on Pakistani passports.

According to British officials, more than 50 Afghans bearing Pakistani passports landed in different UK cities from Karachi and Islamabad during the last two months. The British officials feared that Qaeda and Taliban terrorists could sneak into their country.

Sources said immigration officer of the British High Commission, acting on a tip-off on February 2, offloaded six Afghan citizens – with their passports numbered as NRO159751, PH1158611, AJ0152881 and BK36877931 - from PIA’s flight PK-785 set for London. During the investigation, it was revealed that Afghan nationals had paid 25,000 Pounds each for sending them to the UK. FIA Additional Director Sajjad Haider was reportedly found involved in the scandal.

Haider is a very ‘influential’ person. A reference was filed in accountability court of Rawalpindi against Haider in 2004 and he was sentenced for three years. He appealed against the decision but high court did not give him relief. He was reinstated on his post through NRO on July 18, 2008, and was promoted to the seat of deputy director. After Supreme Court’s decision in NRO case, his promotion was cancelled. online

Another member of Zardari tribe... named in anti state activities.

They should just do it , PIA needs a major wake up call to get their act together .

Do it! its time to show public these rascals and proper punishment needs to be rewarded. I personally think PIA has become a disgrace and pray every time any family member flies through it.

Your fears are not ill placed, a PIA plane crash landed in Dubai airport a couple of days back...didn't it?
added to this racket there is also a fear of spread of a SARS virus from Pakistan or ME, a British citizen who travelled to ME and Pakistan contracted it.
So one can expect a few travel restrictions coming Pakistans way.

exactly. Does PIA issue passports?

Pakistanis today are on the receiving end of many things and it is because we could not say no to the americans in 79. Pity we cannot say no to them today either and say we will fight terror but on our own terms. The talk of banning PIA shows how any Pakistani can be the victim for another idiots mistakes.

The thing is not one nation, not one person feels any pity for us, sympathizes with our plight. They blame us instead! 1980's was our most major policy blunder.

How can PIA be held resposnible for fake passports?

Passports are basicall issued by Rehman Malik, but he is hindu implant and british national and blaming him means blaming your self.

Ugly looking PIA is perfect escape goat.

So what's new? Fraudulent passports are even given by Pak intel agencies to Indian citizens suspected of terror activities belonging to the Indian Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba to fly to Saudi Arabia from Pakistan. For example Abu Jundal (Ansari) who was amongst the six main planners of the Mumbai attacks who operated from Pakistan.

Nothing to see here....move on...:smokin:

Pakistan interior minister is indian implant and only he can issue passports and visas... if any other world agency have Pakistani passports than it is him who is responsible.

Playing the victim card has become passe and lost its shelf life.
It's time Pakistan invents some new strategies to gain sympathy.

they were on PIA flights soo thats something odd for Britans...
maybe PIA officials involved in all this??

Maybe, PIA offcials were not doing proper checks on the travellers but still fake passports is not the resposibility of PIA or is it? :undecided:

This is not first time... during Zardari era, hundreds of Pakistani passports were given to northern alliance warlords.

Clear cut matter of common faith.
