What's new

UK slips behind India to become the world's sixth biggest economy

Gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 2.6% in the three months to the end of June
India economic growth is scale expansion. It's quantity growth, not quality growth. There is no big room for quantity growth. The ceiling is low.

I don't care who said what. When China was a $3T economy, made-in-China were already everywhere. Sense the difference.
Self inflicting damages. Good for you guys :yahoo::azn:

Means little considering the huge Indian population and the terrible living conditions people have.
Let us know when per capita income reaches a level indicating good living standards, you have a free health service and a generous welfare state. I haven’t even gone into innovation, growth industries etc.
This comparison is a joke.
I agree that any comparison to these high income countries is only good for sanghis to engage in chest thumping and to feel good about themselves for a little while.

However there is no denying the absolute progress that has happened over that past decade or so in India. An example is Indian government being able to offer FREE dry grains to over 800 MILLION of its most backward population for the past two years. Such schemes are huge and could not have been undertaken, if not for the progress lately.

I think it is not correct to say Indian century, ASEAN population is just 600 million people, compared to India with 1.4 billion people, less than half of India but our total GDP is still higher than India GDP.

I would say, just let China compete with USA. India competitor is basically ASEAN

Indians and their never ending quest to be seen as equals to the US and the UK never fail to amuse me. India ranks 101/116 on the Global Hunger Index and ranks 131/189 on the Human Development Index, on what basis can these fools claim superiority to the UK?

GDP of ASEAN countries is $3.07 trillion in comparision to India's $3.17 trillion. Not to forget that majority of these ASEAN countries will fall into recession in this FY

What is Sri Lanka's ranking on these indexes? If these rankings are so important in practical life, then why these countries are still not able to cope with the disastrous impact of Ukraine-Russia war?

What fall ?

Vietnam Q2 is more than 6 percent
Philippine Q2 is more than 7 percent
Malaysia Q2 is 8.7 percent
Indonesia Q2 is 5.4 percent

Dont get fooled by India Q2 growth, it has low base effect as Q2 2021 India faces Delta variant lockdown. See your Q4 2021 as 5.4 percent and even Q1 2022 is going down to 4.1 percent

I am waiting Indian statistic biro to show its Q to Q growth in 2022

  • India held 71st position with an overall score of 57.2 points on the GFS Index 2021
  • In Comparison to Neighbouring Countries: It fared better than Pakistan (75th position), Sri Lanka (77th Position), Nepal (79th position) and Bangladesh (84th position).

What was the growth rate of India in Q2 FY 2021-22?

China's development gives people an illusion that every developing country with big population will become big economic power. Not true. China is an exception, not a universal case for most countries. Most developing countries, including Indian, have a development ceiling. The so-called "middle income trap" can also be explained as these countries hit their development ceilings. Most countries can never reach to developed stage.

India will hit its development ceiling in recent several years. Which means, there will be no real growth for India. All economic growths in paper are just to balance international inflations.
Don’t delude yourself. India will eventually be at least No 2 in our lifetime.

None of those countries claim to be economic superpowers that are equal to the likes of the UK and the US. So there goes that

Your 3.17 trillion GDP is based on your weird fiscal period, 2021 Marc-2022 March. It has about one additional quarter in 2022 compared to ASEAN fiscal period that ended in the end of the 2021 year.

That 3.07 trillion is projection from IMF as Indonesia growth in 2021 is faster than what IMF projected.

That's good to know

India has emerged as the third largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for United Kingdom (UK) after United States (US) and France in terms of number of projects

In India, the government's financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March the following year.

Show me the reference where Indians have claimed that India is a economic superpower after surpassing UK's GDP

@Zornix Why you still haven't answered to this question my friend? What are your thoughts on the macro economic fundamentals of these countries?
