Academic year 1404 begins without girls above sixth grade
by The Frontier Post

KABUL (Tolonews): The Ministry of Education has announced the official start of the new academic year for 1404 across Afghanistan.
However, girls’ schools for students above the sixth grade remain closed, and the fate of their reopening is still uncertain.
At a ceremony held for this occasion in Kabul, Habibullah Agha, the acting minister of education, stated that school curricula will be reviewed, and any content that contradicts “religion and Afghan traditions” will be removed from the educational syllabus.
He emphasized that the new curriculum will be based on religious teachings and modern sciences.
“We will remove subjects that go against Afghan culture and religion from the curriculum, regardless of who agrees or disagrees. We will create a curriculum that is religious, modern, and aligned with Afghan society,” said Habibullah Agha.
During the program, several high-ranking officials of the Islamic Emirate also stressed the importance of developing the education system and addressing the current challenges in this sector.
“Cabinet members, the Prime Minister, and officials of the Islamic Emirate are committed to building a superior education system and expanding education and training throughout Afghanistan, especially in remote areas,” stated Abdul Salam Hanafi, administrative deputy of Prime Minister.
“We have fallen far behind in education and higher education, and the current level of knowledge and talent is not sufficient for the development and self-sufficiency of the country,” stated Abdul Baqi Haqqani, acting head of the National Examination Authority.
The new academic year begins while the issue of girls being deprived of education beyond the sixth grade enters its fourth year, and it is still unclear when the doors of education will reopen for girls.
