What's new

UK sikhs don't want to be identified as "indian"

Its a fact. They hate India.

Which ones? The 83000 UK citizens or the millions who volunteer as soldiers in the Indian army to defend their motherland?
Because India only cares about Indian Sikhs. Rest are not are concern.

You can choose to live denial. Like you are with all other problems in India. Why are you getting angry when I tell you the reality. Sikhs are stable in UK and Canada and they hate India openly. What do you want me to say now??

As muddy turns india more hindutva, under pressure from sikh brethren across the world the call to reject india will be too much

Pakistan is Muslim land, punjab is close to 100% Muslim, we Partitioned from india never to return

indian Punjab is as close to a sikh homeland as the sikhs can hope for

jinnah offered them a independent sikh homeland in east punjab in 1947 which thry rejected only to be humiliated in 1984, now Sikhs are landless gypsies

its up to sukhs to grow some balls and fight for a homeland and avenge the humiliation of the Sikhs in 1984
'84 as an issue has been raised quite a few times. Everytime, it resulted in the same point. It was claimed by Indian side that it was an aberration and not a state policy and it happened because of militancy in Punjab. Heck, I have seen written signed statements from local Punjabis about how militants back then were actually harming locals in Punjab, ones submitted by Indian representation. Hence '84 alone is not enough to build a case. Sikhs know this well. Atleast those who care about it enough.

Thus, a much wider case has been proposed. It shows that '47 was a flawed partition and ask for repartition of India and Pakistan to carve out a Khalistan with capital in Lahore. It basically tries to establish Sikh history as a long and separate third community -- a persecuted one-- and hence a nation.

Needless to say, it is a non starter. Hence I don't think this kind of activism is going anywhere. As seen even in UK case, most of Sikhs are not exactly bothered about it.

Lastly, if you ask Sikhs in Punjab about it, most common response is this : Are you folks going to come back and live in your new nation if it comes about? Well, its a valid question. Most of Sikhs from outside Punjab have trouble answering it.

I am sorry but what are you trying to say exactly? You can reflect on this issue better. I agree that Sikh people's hate towards India has nothing to do with Pakistan. They are disappointed with current situation of India and they openly say that they are ashamed of being an Indian.

Sikhism is not an ethnicity; it is a religion. Looks like the British need to be taught their own language.

Global Sikh sentiment plays a large part in the thinking of Sikhs in India.

Mistreatment of Sikh visitors to India has resulted in this situation, as well as BJP politicians trying to incite Sikh worshippers against Muslims in Gurdwaras.

The only one that’s riled up is you.
I asked a simple question, who it was you were referring to when you made a sweeping statement as a proxy spokesperson for Sikhs.
Sikh community in the UK is approx half a million strong. I suppose you speak for all of them is it? Or for that matter Canada?
Or are you just regurgitating stale news about these 83K Sikhs?
If it’s the latter, thanks for the note Captain Obvious.

They are allowed the right to identify as a horse if it pleases them. The UK is a dying power, what they choose to do in their domestic census is of little to no significance to India or anyone else for that matter.

The reality is that Sikhs represent a disproportionately large part of the Indian military despite their relatively small population. India's former PM is a Sikh. The Sikhs in India are clearly content with the way things are.

Agreed. khalistan will NEVER come into existent. FAR too late for that.

Sikhs dont hate India. Period. Hate is not in our DNA. Period. This hate and revenge is not our way of life. It goes against the basic teachings of Sikhi.

Sikhs who are outside India are majorly happy with their new adopted nation. Most of us are not going to go to Khalistan even if it comes about.
Sikhs in India could care less about it. They are deeply entrenched in their nation and are well spread all over India.

I will give you a simple example. In Surrey, there is a massive Sikh population -- there is a good Pakistani Punjabi population as well, BTW. In Vaishakhi, there are massive number of processions are organized. Each year there are few processions showing Khalistan cause and its always the same folks.

They are identifying as Sikhs with no attachment to India. It’s a big problem for you, it will directly affect your Punjab.

I think you should bet on it. You’ll be rolling in millions soon lol (As per your own analysis)

India needs a few more partitions. Their ego is too big and now they are oblivious to the issues of their minority populations, even openly antagonizing them.
