With high inflation, increasing crime rates, loss of manufacturing, looks like they are done!

Uk has been done since ww2, its already a second rate power in Europe behind Germany France and maybe even russia.
All thats left is to wipe london as the financial lynchpin, thats all the once great empire has been left with.

It produces nor invents anything, the loot of the raj is evaporating constantly, empires like these rise and fall constantly, now comes the fall.

If you let your technological lead slip away, and adopt socialist policies without the means to compensate for the falling productivity, then it is bound to happen.

In my career I happened to come across quite a few British academics, some are brilliant, yet they manage to irk everyone in the room with their snobbish attitude. No one wants to collaborate with the brits in academic research. Even their MSc programs are sub par.

Graph of GDP or GDP growth rate?

UK needs brands, like Germans have brands

They can do it but they're way to politically unstable to truly rejuvenate thier economy

UK had brands of Jaguar, Land Rover, Rolls Royce and many more. What happened to them?

Brand without managers and marketing is useless.

.
Barely any brands of value in UK now. Few that I recall are Rolls Royce for jet engines, ARM, AstraZenca etc., They have some big financial firms. Other than that I can't recall much about good brands they have. In fact ARM was almost bought by nvidia in 2022.

Eventually ARM will be acquired by either Nvidia or AMD. The investors will realize that ARM in isolation will create minimal return to their investment.

I hope it goes Nvidia way.

Nvidia has already been blocked from buying ARM, and AMD won't be allowed to either for similar reasons. Softbank is trying to form some sort of an alliance with Samsung, though.

Good luck convincing Softbank to do something like that, Softbank will make the move that will most benefit it in the long term.

Land rovers are a classic example of the decline in British standards, still provide that air of luxury and class, but spends more time in the service center waiting for parts than on the road.
Only thing working good in the new one is the engine and tranny, quite only because it’s BMW supplied.

More proof that the only sustainable economies are based on natural resources like oil. Saudi wont ever go bankrupt. Japan will follow the Brits as their companies also get our competed by Chinese, korean and Pakistan firms.

If you think SoftBank has higher moral standard, then you should read more on wework fiasco.

Where did I mention anything related to morality or moral standards? SoftBank would think a thousand times before doing something as radical as selling shares of ARM to a chip manufacturer. Also, why do you want a chip manufacturer to acquire ARM? Even if by some miracle SoftBank decides to sell ARM, it will only sell a portion of ARM. SoftBank wants to expand its ecosystem of tech companies not shrink it.

You dont need be a manufacturing giant to have a thriving economy. When your economy matures you outsource most of the manufacturing and go into other sectors. Its still a world leader in AI , Health , Education , Tech etc
