UK Defence Ministry: Implications of Turkish UAV doctrines are game-changing.

Turkey must increase investment in drone technology building more better, mobile, robust and powerful machines. We need to stay ahead of the game and not let enemies catch up. I'd prefer Turkey invest all the the money allocated for building tanks into drones. Its a force multiplier by unprecedented levels. Proud of Turkeys achievement and global players are now taking notice and even following turkeys lead. George Friedman made startling predictions in his book "the next 100 years" about Turkey's potential after new leaders came into power since 2002 while most of us we're oblivious.

I hope you will agree with the hypothetical situation that every capable adversary will be looking for counter-measures. Expensive fast jets will no longer make rare and expensive sorties in future, to tackle UAVs; instead, as the torpedo boat bred the torpedo-boat destroyer, that from a size slightly larger than a torpedo-boat has swollen to the Chinese light-cruiser cloned giants of more than 10,000 MT displacement, we will see UAV-destroyers. These will inevitably become the new capital ships of the air, and tear holes in the inventories of nations unequipped with them.

Countermeasures already exists against UAV that are still electronically tethered to the human the euphoria of our Turkish friends not withstanding. A fully autonomous unmanned vehicle is the holy grail and platforms like Skyborg, Kratos XQ-58 Valkyrie, Boeing Loyal Wingman are at the forefront of that scary future. A future where fully autonomous relentless BORGS roam the earth - air, surface, sub-surface and space to fulfill its mission or die trying.

Skyborg
Full autonomous platforms for contested and highly contested airspace.

Military pilots receive key information about their surroundings when teamed aircraft with integrated autonomy detect potential air and ground threats, determine threat proximity, analyze imminent danger, and identify suitable options for striking or evading enemy aircraft. Embedded within the teamed aircraft, complex algorithms and cutting-edge sensors enable the autonomy to make decisions based on established rules of engagement set by manned teammates. Field tests will ensure the algorithms’ accuracy and verify that the system continuously operates within the constraints established during mission planning.

Air Force policy stipulates that people are always responsible for lethal decision-making. Accordingly, Skyborg will not replace human pilots. Instead, it will provide them with key data to support rapid, informed decisions. In this manner, Skyborg will provide manned teammates with greater situational awareness and survivability during combat missions.

Golden Horde

Golden Horde uses a collaborative autonomy approach referred to as “play calling.” A “play” is an established collaborative behavior enabled (or disabled) when certain predefined conditions are met by the swarm. Golden Horde uses a collection of plays called a Playbook. Loaded prior to the mission, the Playbook provides a choice of plays from which the weapons can choose.

Golden Horde does not use artificial intelligence or machine learning to make determinations independently regarding which targets to strike. The system only selects from set plays and cannot violate defined Rules of Engagement.

Navigation Technology Satellite-3 (NTS-3)

This is the next GEN resilient GPS, it achieves resilience by being fully reprogrammable in geostationary orbit in space. NTS-3 is expected to become operational in 2022.

In-orbit reprogramming enables the system to broadcast new signals when jamming is detected, defeating interference and spoofing attacks. AFRL uses high gain antenna configurations to provide Earth coverage and steerable regional beams in multiple frequencies and signal codes. These technologies advance signal availability and utility for terrestrial and space users.

This is an Airforce AFRL program, based on US experience in Afghanistan and Iraq the Army is focusing on autonomous supply missions.

Hence, Turkey is building Akinji, Aksungur etc. to arm them with EW pods, AESA radars, BVR missiles, SOM etc...

I think what everyone is hinting towards without spelling it out is. While Turkey has archieved remarkable results of our own UAV prgrams such as TB2 and ANKA. We’re still a nation developing our armed industry. We are bleeding on engine, propulsion etc. So imo while we’re good atm, it will not take long for developed countries to overtakeus in this field. However should we be able to orbit more satellites and facilitate fully AI controlled uav swarm interoperable with a playmaker/master (global hawk awac capability) we’ll have fully achieved drone war doctrine. The AI capability of learning and recognizing targets would be necessary of course. Also if groundforces are to be moving on the field at the same time some sort og IFF would be necessary.

They will be equipped well, but they have to take into consideration that these may get shot down and end up in hands of adversary who will definitely try to unravel any engineering and or electronic secrets held within in the machines. There's a slim line that will have to be balanced.

Hopefully, Turkey can exploit the positve PR and secure some export orders to wealthy western countries. That would signify an important quality stamp for Turkish products and encourage NATO members to purchase other Turkish defence goods as well.

IMO it’s become a political tool, and the full potential reduced. Karayel could have been given a chance too.
