NEW DELHI: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has decided to have details of face, iris and ten finger prints as a necessary
requirement for registration of residents.
The decision was taken after a committee constituted by UIDAI in September last year under the Chairmanship of Dr BK Gairola, DG, NIC suggested parameters for biometric cards, followed by international users, based on the ground realities in India.
In its report submitted to UIDAI, the Committee has recommended the standards for face, finger print (including the minutiae formats) and iris image.
"UIDAI, after careful consideration and examination of the recommendations of the Committee, has accepted the standards and best practices suggested by the Committee for face, finger prints and iris.
"The UIDAI, after taking all relevant factors into consideration, has also decided that all three biometric attributes of residents, viz face, all ten finger prints and both iris images will be collected during the enrolment process into the UID system," an official release said.
