Ugly ceremonies "WAGAH"; traitors galore

I absolutely agree with the author. This is nothing but a mockery of the Drill Manual. We, Indians as well as Pakistanis, have made a laughing stock of ourselves in the eyes of the world. They think those 'Jawans' are a bunch of immature dancing clowns who look so stupid it's not even funny, as some of my foreign friends had mentioned to me a few weeks back after witnessing that nonsensical parody on the border.

Why do we continue to behave in this fashion? When are we going to grow up?

if you are so much concerned about international image and wasteful practices then best thing to do is agree together to demilitarise Siachin
thats an absolute waste of money and men on both sides.

can that be done? of course not because the chicken and the egg argument will ensue . who went first and why and bla bla

We could, but examples like Kargil give the Indian side little confidence.

Everybody knows that its all in good fun. Even at the height of tensions this ceremony has gone as is, so its okay. Its like a big cricket match being played at the border where both sides win and the audience gets a free show of all the bravado that is expected against each other.

I would say 99% of the people walk off happy from the venue.

serving in Siachen is anything but disgraceful.

...and the service period is only 3 months.

hear what Micheal Palin is saying. there is no mockery in his description
only appreciation and Awe

by the way look at the crowd on both Indian and Pakistan side and tell me if any one looks embarrassed?

Pakistan India Wagah Border Ceremony (by Michael Palin) - YouTube

I was there an year or so back and loved the ceremony.. I didnt feel an iota of animosity in the air. As a matter of fact I was sitting in the VIP enclosure and one of the families made a booing gesture towards the Pakistani rangers and were immediately reprimanded by the BSF jawans on the India side. Overall a very nice and patriotic environment.. I for one would hate for it to stop...

A number of countries have distinctive military parades and traditions that may seem weird to some but are a deep-rooted part of their heritage and embraced by the people. So is the case with the Wagah ceremony. It's unique and we here at Pakistan love it, I can't get why Indians on PDF despise it so much because I NEVER saw a chair empty on the Indian side either. Anyway, here are some other distinct military parades around the world, being different does not make you a freak, it just makes you unique and if you fear being unique then you will probably lose your identity.

Who can forget the change of guards at Buckingham palace, people go to all lengths to try and make these guys smile:

Exactly, they announce on both sides that people are representing their nations and are requested not to do anything to tarnish their country's image. That's enough to make even the most crazy jingo-maniac act like the gentleman!

sir his issue is that his folks came from mumbai to karachi...he has family back in india.....when he goes to india his family tells him to do something that can tarnish the image of your country....he says all right......

so what if his family came from Mumbai to Karachi ? our family also came from Calcutta to Decca-Karachi,we also have family in India but we also sacrificed a hell lot for Pakistan , many of my relatives who were once quite well of back in Calcutta are today living in the refugee camps of Dhaka yet not a single 14 August pas by with out them celebrating with enthusiasm & patriotic love for Pakistan, no body with even an iota of dignity would talk in such a disgusting manner regarding the Urdu speaking community of Pakistan
post reported for personal attack & gross generalization of the Urdu speaking community of Pakistan

There is no animosity or personal grudges between those who perform the ceremony on a DAILY BASIS, I fail to see where people can dig these preposterous claims from that the Wagah ceremony is a source of animosity between both sides!

Where is the animosity, you speak about?

Demilitarization that in Siachin? no..... way:no:. Pakistan is not a trustworthy member and you people always calling Kashmir as Jugular vein so definitely Pak need a loop hole to make problems.

India don't want another Kargil type war and we are not in position to afford unnecessary war with Pakistan.

I already spoke about this, every country has their own version of the "Bandar ka Naach"(Distinct military ceremonies).
It's not just a soldier's responsibility to fight war, it's his job to inspire, to awe, to set a precedent, to raise morale. And these boys do that just fine. If I were over 6.3", I'd go sign up for the Rangers after watching the parade, it just get's you charged up. I crave the euphoria that the parade just induces into you.

It's your country and you know it much better than I ever will, I read about the attitude of the Indian people in books(and through this medium) whereas you interact with them on a daily basis. What you wrote is fine and all but if it is so debasing to hold this ceremony with Pakistan, then why don't they start it all their borders?

I'll give you the answer, because none of these countries is an enemy, yes China may be a rival but Pakistan is an enemy. Your ideological 'Evil Twin'. People WANT to see their enemy, want to see what the fuss is about, want to see if they really have those small devil horns on their heads. People may go to watch a similar parade with Chinese, Bangladeshi, Nepali or Bhutanese troops but that will get old after a while. This ceremony will never get old, because as long as both our countries exist, we will be ideological opposite poles.

So you also agree with me that this is nothing but just a way to pander to the vicarious voyeurs on both sides of the border.
