What's amazing is the automatic assumption by modern "experts" that our ancestors were just too stupid to do these things themselves and needed alien help.

Ironically, it's the modern "experts" who come out looking like fools because they take allegorical symbols, like the half-man, half-animal motif, literally as evidence of a genetic mix. Can you imagine if some "experts" ten thousand years in the future look at our modern cartoons and decide that spiderman and superman must have really existed in the 20th century?
