UAE Condemns Somalia for Seizing Private Jet

The United Arab Emirates condemned on Tuesday Somalia authorities for seizing one of its civilian aircraft that was carrying millions of dollars, reported the WAM news agency.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that the jet was seized at Mogadishu airport carrying US$9.6 million in cash allocated to support the Somali army and trainees.

The Ministry added that some those onboard the plane had been held at gunpoint and assaulted by Somali security forces.

This action is an illegal step that "contradicts the established diplomatic norms and traditions between countries and is a serious breach of the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries in November 2014," it continued, according to WAM.

The UAE "deplores this violation of international law and norms, at a time when the UAE has provided all kinds of political, economic, military and humanitarian support in the darkest conditions to establish security and stability in the Somali Federal Republic."

I don't know why are they doing this..but it is true that they have been involved in such activities perhaps on the behalf of USA... but whatever they are doing is really evil and it will come back to haunt them.

There are many countries involved in Somalia that are part of the alliance against Qatar; UAE, Saudi, Egypt, Bahrain, etc.

None of them have responded to Somalia's stated neutrality to the Gulf crisis where they wanted us to cut links with Qatar like UAE has.

As a result, none have received the treatment from Somalia like UAE has.

UAE has tried to act in bad faith and play with our long friendship and brotherly links. They have gotten into our internal affairs between federal states and the federal government at a time we are fragile and building state institutions, they have funded spoilers and war profiteers like Abdirashiid Ali Shermarke and Abdirahman Abdishakuur, the troops they trained for Somalia have gone rogue and even attacked a Senator's home (Abdi Qaybdiid), and they tried to flush Somalia with bribe money as evidenced by the seizure of millions of dollars and documents from the raid on Abdirahman Abdishakur's house and the impounded UAE Royal Jet.

Somalia has shown patience and realpolitik by not already having cut links with UAE, but impounding a UAE Royal Jet, detaining the UAE Ambassador in the process, seizing 10 million dollars, and rescinding the security agreement between UAE and Somalia with the UAE troops to be disbursed to other training camps (probably to the Turkish camp) are strong and highly visible measures against UAE that shows bad blood has seeped in.

It also shows the speed with which the Somali government is becoming more powerful everyday. The status quo has changed.

These steps are so far strong enough to help convince UAE that it has caused real offense.

Still the UAE is a large trading partner of Somalia and we have always had a great relationship and brotherly cooperation including that UAE has helped Somalia a lot as well during the civil war.

If I were an advisor to Farmaajo, I would tell him to request an audience with the UAE Emir to relay our concerns and why Somalia felt to move as it did. Offer reapproachment and make a concerted effort to continue to work together as before going forward.

I think the UAE has gotten the point.
