UAE, Australia look at efforts to combat terrorism
Mohammad holds talks with Abbott to boost bilateral relations
General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday held talks with Tony Abbott, Australia’s Prime Minister, on efforts to fight terrorism.
They also discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them and expand the scope of cooperation between the UAE and Australia.
Shaikh Mohammad condemned the terrorist attack on Australia’s Sydney Café last month which targeted innocent citizens, and emphasised the UAE’s determination to stand firmly and collaborate in efforts to combat terrorism.
The talks touched on efforts by both countries to combat violence and terrorism as well as on their coordination and cooperation with the international community in the face of the global menace of terrorism that poses a threat to world stability and security.
Shaikh Mohammad and Abbott also discussed the latest regional and international developments and exchanged views about a number of issues of mutual concern.
He highlighted the importance of exchange of expertise and visits, as well as of enhancing communication and coordination between their countries, so as to open up broader horizons for bolstering bilateral relations.
Earlier in the day, Abbott, who is on an official visit to the country, was accorded an official reception upon his arrival at Al Mushrif Palace, where Shaikh Mohammad and Tony Abbott stood on an honour platform while the UAE and Australian national anthems were played. A 21-gun salute was also fired in honour of the guest.
Following the ceremony, Shaikh Mohammad accompanied the Australian premier to the main hall of the palace, where the Crown Prince received senior Australian officials accompanying Abbott who was greeted by Shaikhs and senior UAE officials.
