You're right. Afghanistan is a strategic location to cut Chinese land silk route / BRI. Losing Afghanistan means that US can't stop China's trade corridor in the central Asia. With this US departure, China can dance freely in their Euro-Asia routes. Thus US struggle in the SCS is simply a futile attempt. Even if you burn SCS, it won't kill China. Instead, it will bring Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan and Philippine more trouble. Specially Taiwan and Vietnam. As they really needed SCS for their trading route.

During 26/11, US put tremendous pressure on India, not do surgical strike on LeT camps.

Even after Pulwama, they asked India limit to one place and Balakot was decided.

But after retreat from Afghanistan freeing transit compulsion with Pakistan, US would give free hand to India in dealing with Pakistan in future tensions. More so after humiliating US retreat from Afghanistan with Taliban taking control the country and given that US veterans believe Pakistan got blood of their collogue on their hands.
