U.S. Intelligence: China Is Building Up Its Capability to Invade Taiwan

Why is this even a threat? After WWII, Taiwan was returned from Japan back to China after losing it for 50 years. However, it slipped through again after 4 years. Fine, at least whoever controlled Taiwan at that time at least pretended to be Chinese. Now, they no longer pretend. It has always been a WTF case for Chinese. The desire of taking it back is even considered a "threat"? Who is threatening whom? Japanese are still enjoying their "glorious" moments during WWII. Your own words are just a perfect example.

20 years ago, I told my Taiwanese friends that the conflict between mainland China and Taiwan is always about Japan. Japan is just hiding behind US but it is the real cause. If US withdrew its power due to whatever reason, it just retreats from the Pacific but Japan is always there. Taking back Taiwan is just the first step to finish the unfinished conflict between the two countries in WWII.

Threat to Taiwanese people themselves. Maybe you don't know or don't remember but when Taiwan was having their first election in 1996, PRC was expressing its anger and making threats and shooting off volleys of rockets into the sea. Sounds pretty threatening to me. China was far too weak at that time so they reasoned they need to make stronger navy. They first started with Type 22 missile boats so as to overwhelm Taiwan Navy but are now moving away from Type 22 missile boats for use of regularly blue water navy for that task. Or at least this Chinese article makes that point.

The only way to make a non-threatening campaign to take control of Taiwan is to do so with soft power only. That is with the movies, TV dramas, and money money money. The PRC chairman Xi making a threat at the beginning of the year is just that, a threat.

New Japanese zero will protect Taiwan independence :-)

When China is planning to take Kyushu, then you may speak of the word "threat" about China. Until then, Japan is always a threat to China.

If China gives up claim on Taiwan, gives up claim on the Senkaku islands, and gives up claim on the 9 dash line, China would still be the biggest by far of all Asia countries but all other Asia countries would be able to trust China better. But the claim on Taiwan, the claim on the Senkaku islands, and the 9 dash line are aggressive policies that aim to make China even bigger than it already is. There is no reason for the surrounding countries to accept this. China is making a big mistake.

It is unfortunate that Taiwanese live in a place that belongs to China and is important to China. It is not their fault, just like hundreds of thousands Okinawan civilians who lost their lives in the battle of Okinawa. They lived in a place that was taken by Japanese and used as a stronghold. A place that Americans determined to take. Taiwanese could lessen their unfortunate situation by maintaining the sovereignty of China over Taiwan, even just in name. But if they think they have the every right to rip it from China, whatever happens to them generates no sympathy from me.

Formosa island under native control ==> Spanish and Dutch ==> Ming/Qing ==>Imperial Japan ==> CKS dictatorship ==> Democracy (1996)

So foolish is the foundation of those feelings. Times come and pass. The era of imperialism has passed. The cold war has past. All of China's talk about pursuing peace in the region is all fake if they feel so insecure so as to justify making themselves even bigger. Naturally that comes at the expense of making all the surrounding countries even smaller. It is unacceptable. China is making a mistake.

So is Japan yet Japanese whine about the loss of Kuril islands to Russians.

Taiwan is a country of freedom of speech. Naturally CCP fanboys are against freedom of speech which is why Taiwan doesn't vote itself into unification with China. If Taiwanese have always been Chinese, why haven't they just simply vote themselves in? Because for two reason.s They are Taiwanese and because they are democratic. PRC is neither.

The people in the Ryukyu islands have freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the right to vote and the right to assemble. The people in Tibet have none of these things.

Shouldn't matter. I could be martian. Ya'll are going crazy mad now.

That is the result of the surrounding geopolitics. Taiwan today only keeps the name "Republic of China" to keep getting money out of mainland China.

Well, I do think many Taiwanese were thinking about their the Chinese heritage that they did have. But in the end, Taiwanese, Chinese, Hakka, or whatever, they are also democratic. If PRC was to become a democratic country and have elections, free internet, and freedom of speech, then the Taiwanese when Ma was president, they just might have found it tempted to deepen their identity as Chinese. But CCP is utter failure. No outside nation wants to be part of the CCP until they are "harmonized" first.

Japs for ChiComs.

If you wasted your efforts, then stop posting :-)

No you fail to understand again.

Essentially, it was when Taiwan become a democracy is when Taiwan finally became the independent country like how its been before the arrival of the Spanish and Dutch. That is the same as like how when Indonesia returned to being administered by Indonesians throughout their long history of various kingdoms, before the Dutch arrived.

Hey tell me

Do u prefer wiping with your left or right hand?

The Soviet military invaded the islands after the official surrender of Japan. WW2 had ended. But the Soviets invaded. Thus making it an illegal seizure.

Also, Japan has never threatened Russia over those islands. Its been entirely diplomatic.

I thought I was a waste of time :)

Threatening is also diplomatic as it just tries to accomplish something with words. Japan may not threaten Russia with military force in order to avoid provoking laughter. That is all.

From what we have seen in the past if china wants to unify Taiwan with mainland then they wont be doing it by force. Most likely a long term plan which would involve people switching loyalties and propaganda against west to avert public against them. Unlike Yankees chinese invasion won't be that with force but a silent invasion. There are already several leaders of taiwan who have proposed unification so USA is just shitting itself over nothing.
I think americans are just shitting themselves on prospects of US tech falling into hands of china. Not that china would need them but regardless Yakee arrogance is just astounding.

He is an imposter. Not a Japanese, but a wannabe. Cannot read or write any Japanese.

I am collaborating with a researcher in Mainland China to write on NEA. And that colleague can read and write Japanese.

Reminds me of Nihonjin except Nihonjin was very pro China towards the end.

Yes, I remember him. He turned strong pro-China in his last year and made some South Vietnamese US posters like gambit and jhungary quite shocked.
