Typhoon...Your opinions, please.

Are we saying F16 BLOCK 60 & F18 E/F are superior war planes to Typhoon & rafale

no no!! all we are saying that they are even inferior to the LCA as LCA is INDIAN!!!!! no match for the indians na!!!! :hitwall:

Typhoon is a good aircraft and has some pretty good technology integrated, however it has only recently qualified itself to be a MR platform in the RAF. Rafale is not there completely.

The American hardware by far is the most tested and evaluated Multi Role platform that is available on the market. F-16 and F/A-18 have their pros and cons but from an avionics standpoint, they offer nothing less than what the Typhoon offers. The radars are in the same class or exceed the Typhoon's Captor (ECR-90). ECM suites such as DASS and SPECTRA are nice, however I believe the US ones such as the latest ALQ-211 (V4) AIDEWS on the Viper are very capable systems as well.

The difference is mostly in the flight regimes of the Typhoon as it is more maneuverable than the teen fighters, but when you take into account decent radars and very good BVRAAMs on the US fighters in addition to JHMCS and AIM-9x combination, the US teen fighters can hang in there quite well.

Blain.. What would be your opinion to this balance if the meteor is thrown into the mix?
Consider this, compared to legacy teen fighters, the typhoon has a lower frontal RCS which is constantly monitored and kept as low as possible.

Acutally not to be off topic i think we should be just happy with the new f-16's if we ever get them and work towards our jf-17's and fc-20's all these other aircrafts are just dreams that perhaps for now will never come true.

Absolutely correct. Caesar aesa radar is in the offing for Typhoon similarly RBe2 thales aesa radar for rafale. But there is still some time to go before these radars enter the arena, till then atleast american fighters will rule the roost and will give bang for the buck spend.

With respect to ECW suites, i have heard that spectra is the best. Its widely speculated in defence circles , that spectra has active radar cancelling mechanism .i.e it will have lot of electronic stealth built into it. This if true would one of the best aspects of Rafale.

Well Obviously American Electronics are far superior to other countries.I was watching interview of some USAF Major and he said F16/Block52 is superior to Eurofighter Tranche 1 in terms of Radar, Missiles ECM Suite etc.

I have to disagree on this statement. You forgot which airplane with AESA actually first flew and first entered service. Its AESA radar technologies made some contributions to the development of AN/APG-77(F-22) Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar. Its unit price is second highest only to F-22, and it is not allowed to be exported.

Hint:What Sam Witwicky said about Bumblebee in Transformers film.

It does and that will remain the case until AESA radars with greater ranges are deployed on the F-16s (F/A-18s in the USN are already receiving them). From an extended range standpoint of Meteor which, based on the documentation at least, looks to be a fabulous BVRAAM, I would think that AIM-120D would need to be considered on the teen fighters. I think AIM-120D integration will ensure that the teen fighters in use by many airforces will remain very current in the BVR scenarios.
