I was under the impression that the Euro-Fighter and even the Rafale was vastly superior to any 4.5 fighter or even a souped up 4 th generation fighter on the market.

It is widely believed that technology/avionics, etc. in those planes were just slightly below or at Raptor standards.

Now, I'm reading articles by some respected people and even postings on other respected sites stating that it's avionics are not even up to the latest Hornet or Viper standards and all Tranch 3 will do it "keep up" with those fighters in terms of avionics/technology.

They seem to feel aerodynamically, it's vastly superior but electronically, it leaves alot to be desired.

I can't point to any single article but more and more I read about these planes, it seems to suggest to me that this is the case, with a few people actually saying that the Typhoon is a big turkey.

Can some of the more knowledgable people on this board comment on this or am I reading too much into this?

Well Obviously American Electronics are far superior to other countries.I was watching interview of some USAF Major and he said F16/Block52 is superior to Eurofighter Tranche 1 in terms of Radar, Missiles ECM Suite etc.

Military Aviation Discuss about the Pakistani Air Force capability, induction of fighters, changes in air force, comparison with other air forces of the world.

Regarding Rafale & Typhoon versis 4th generation USA teen series ie F16/60 & F18SH we are all about to find out by the end of this year.

All 4 of these planes are directly competing for IAF MRCA order.

India wil pick the best and tell all why ???

F18S/H is the best for Electronics/ radar say onlookers in india.

Typhoon is the best in Air combat /agility ..

F16/60 the cheapest to buy and maintain.

Rafael good at both but not the best in both

I don't know why in the world you would think that. The Americans offer the best aero-tech for the money, it is widely accepted. I never thought the Eurofighter was anywhere near the capability of the F-22 or the F-35. F/A-18E/F, F-16 Block 50/52+/60, Rafale etc. definitely, but not the ATF or the JSF.

India will pick what is best for them, a plane that fits best in their Air Force along with the Su-30MKIs. That will not necessarily tell us which platform is the best. I'm not sure it's even possible to say something like that.

The only advantage the typhoon has over F-16 blck 52 or 70 is man to machine interface. It has one of the best (if not the best), display lcd's , controls , etc and is extremely user friendly. Otherwise F16 blck 52 beats it hands down in terms of avionics (flying performance is a diff matter).

Only advantage Rafale has over F16 blck 52 is its spectra EW suite and again man to machine interface.

Aesa radars for both Rafale & Typhoon is making. Last heard Thales started testing of RBe2 aesa radar and was hopeful that it will make into production by 2010 end. Similarly EADS is busy on ceasar aesa radar. Once this come into picture then maybe it will become truly a force to recokned with visa visa F16 blck 52.

Okay some people have mentioned the BLK 60 for India doesn't the UAE get a cut of the money as they helped develop it? And also MAverick reckons it's the cheapest but the UAE paid roughly $80 million a pop for them

Mig 35 is the cheapest of all MMRCA contenders. F16 , shornet , typhoon and rafale are priced respectively.

Not sure about the UAE angle though, you are correct in terms that they did develop black 60. Maybe American's can barter upgradation deal with Saudi's to F16 IN once it gets fixed, that can be used as a sweetner for UAE. either ways Saudi's are going to be pissed if we get hands on the techonology that was financed with their money.

u forgot su30mki. it is an amazing jet

"India’s Air Force may now be flying the world’s second best air superiority fighter in the SU-30MKI."

It may be but I dont rate that jet much as compare to Rafale and Typhoon. Sorry to tell you.:cheesy:
