ISLAMABAD: A seminar on ‘Evolution of Air Power and Future Air Operations‘ concluded at the Air Headquarters here on Saturday.

The seminar aimed at addressing the challenges the PAF would be facing in the employment of air power in the prevailing situation and the new future operational environment.

Different aspects of the modernisation programme of the PAF were covered with the resolve to make it a potent combat force capable of facing the complexities of the 21st Century vis-a-vis the air defence of Pakistan.

It was reiterated by various speakers that by the year 2015, the PAF would be a hi-tech outfit with state-of-the-art equipment. They also expressed satisfaction over the training of human resource in order to prepare this vital element for successful induction of equipment and its effective utilisation.

In his address, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmad said, “As the application of air power will stretch our resources to the maximum and put to test our resolve, we must prepare ourselves by ensuring that force structuring and operational training continues to evolve progressively.”

He said it had been proven time and again that a better trained side effectively neutralised a technologically and numerically superior adversary.

He re-emphasised that training for a future aerial battle should entail simulation of complex battle scenarios with harmony among all team members and other stakeholders to achieve the highest professional standards.

In the end, he observed that selfless dedication to professional excellence, combined with a high sense of discipline and comradeship are the key elements to accomplishment of the PAF’s mission. The seminar was attended by a large number of senior Air Staff Officers and field commanders.

i wonder if this is still true in a world of "BVR" & "TVC" options. i mean some things just may not be overcome by sheer training only.

Hi,

It is high time that PAF come out of the ether that it has been living in---they should stop considering the other party as blabbering idiots----if the other party has better technology---indeed they have better flyers to operate those machines as well.

These drones that we see in fata---they are being flown by people maybe thousands of miles away----The air marshall should not forget that it was the high tech weapon that won the war for the afghans in the 80's---.

The air marshall is lying through his teeth when he states, " it had been proven time and again that a better trained side effectively neutralised a technologically and numerically superior adversary ". It is rather otherwise.

I want to know what world and time frame this cowboy is living in. Somebody should give him a wakeup call----his previous predecessor slammed into the side of the mountain and met his demise because the so called aircraft meant to fly the air chief had obsolete equipment.

At least he is doing his job to get the men mentally prepared to go out on suicide one way tickets.

MK I understand what you are talking about but what do you expect him to say?.....CAS will fly or operate what he has been given…He is one unlucky CAS with too limited resources and huge challenges to tackle from East and West as well…. He isn’t in a position to shop anything, in any amount, from any part of world…Our choices and budget always push us in a corner and rarely (or possibly never…!!) we had a free hand.

Its actually like, we are giving our guy a knife, imposing few restrictions, making rules of engagements very restrictive and then asking him to kill few bad guys who have machine guns !! …..And to make matters worst, in the end we banter our guy if he doesn’t do his job well….:tsk:

PAF having been suffering from embargoes since the age of Sabre and to date till Vipers….Now keeping up with operational readiness, pilot training, maintenance issues and carry out so many other tasks despite various embargoes, tight budgets and limited resources is not an easy task for any CAS….

We demand and expect too much from PAF without realising that how small her pocket is… and ….how big her challenges are …..

X-Man,

I understand what you are saying----but what I am reiterating is that PAF makes the same mistake evreytime.

If some of you don't know the story about sanctions or have any misinformation, then let me refresh it for the new readers---I have lived in the u s since 1983----. Most educated people knowing about pakistan, knew that the sanctions were coming---it was Zia ul Haq and Ronald Reagan that kept the sanctions away---Reagan had the political strength to override anyone in congress----daddy Bush didnot have that power---still knowingly pakistan went ahead and made an agreement with the u s govt for the purchase of F 16 on CASH UPFRONT ( NO CREDIT )----and read it----not with General Dynamics----a big blunder---once the sanctions came into place----the delivery got stopped----the fools in the pak admin kept on paying hoping for the best----well that hope was ill-advised----pakistan should have done what any sane american citizen would have done according to the U S law----an agrieved party can stop payment----file a law suit and seek damage due to any shortfalls.

The u s never got any legal pressure to return the money or deliver the planes----pakistan could have taken their money and bought the mirage 2000 ( I will come back to it ).

9/11 happens---the u s gives pakistan a somewhat blank check to what it wants----pakistan air force is clueless to its needs----it is acting like a little child in a candy store---the store owner has stated get pretty much whatever you want----pakistan can't decide---Collin Powell is on record making a statement to an pakistani press guy on why are there so many restrictions in giving equipment to pakistan---what is taking so long----his reply was----no problems from the u s ----its only that the pak keep changing their minds---they ask for one thing---we get it approved from congress---then they turn around and ask for something else in place of the first item----that now takes time and creates problem.

Pakistan should have known that it only had 4---5 years to get most of what it wanted from the u s delieverd. It really had the first 6 months to decide on the type of aircraft after 9/11. The PAF took its sweet time----jumping from one toy to another----and in doing so forgot and lost track of its goal----to buy a stop gap aircraft that they can immediately use to counter 90 percent of indian aircraft right away----the overt and covert friendship measures with india really had pakistan and pakistani millitary going in thousand and one different direction instead of focusing on its real goals.

The Qatari ( correct me please ) mirages were a blessing in disguise----but no----PAF had its head up in the air one more time---the old flame ( U S ) was back and dear beloved would give whatever we needed---oh yes it gave us what we needed but we showed no urgency in our procurement.

We thought the good times will last forever---alas we fall on our face the upteenth time ----the qatari planes would have been flying in our colors by 2005 and another order of a sqdrn would have been flying in by now---36---40 mirage 2000 of qatari standards would have competed with any iaf aircraft----oh but we won't be able to do any upgrades after the fifteen years period---is that what the reasoning was----

Excuse me but " GENERAL " COULD WE PLEASE ASK THE INDIANS NOT TO ATTACK US TILL WE GET OUR BLK 52'S AND JF 17'S AND FC 20. Ask the iaf to put everything on hold till then---could you please-----.

I commend the pak army and the pak navy for keeping their heads out of the sand and getting themselves ready yesterday for today's battle with whatever they have---I thank the army for having the missiles systems functioning and ready to go in the time of need----the navy with its subs----now only if all was left to the PAF---we would have been left in a sorry state of affairs.

My post is not to be disrespectful to the flyers of my country----their courage is not in question----their is no doubt about their dedication----unlike other pakistanis---I don't want my men just to go out and lay down their lives for the country and slam their undloaded weaponless planes on enemy ammo trains ( I would rather have them come back alive and go back again and again to finish the job )---I have not and aota of doubt that they will do so without a second thought or a wrinkle on their brows---when it comes to laying their lives for their nation----but for some reason or other---they don't have their heads on their shoulders at the right time at the right moment when it comes to buying the right fighter aircraft.
