Most of Twitter users tend to have a rational and analytical thinking in the morning, and become more emotional during the night, a new large study analyzing tweets suggests.

To reach these results, researchers at Britain’s University of Bristol analyzed more than eight billion words wrote by more than 800 million users on Twitter.

Professor of Artificial Intelligence Nello Cristianini and his colleagues evaluated news analyzed on Twitter from 54 main cities in Britain over four years. The tweets were classified according to 73 indicators linked to different thinking patterns, the German News Agency reported.

The study, published in the journal PLOS ONE, revealed that the tweets posted at 5 and 6 am contained the largest number of words associated with logical thinking, intelligence and education.

The words that refer to achievement and power are also significantly present in the tweets posted during this period. At the same time, the patterns of tweets change in the evening and at night, becoming more emotional and distracting. Tweets are often more social at 3 and 4 pm, where words expressing existential thinking and positive emotions are more present.

In general, the study showed that the use of language changes strongly and predictably according to the conditions of the human body throughout the day, and corresponds to the differences in nervous activities and hormone levels in the blood.

Stafford Lightman, one of the study’s professors, said: “Circadian rhythms are a major feature of most systems in the human body.”

“Appropriate analysis of social media content can provide valuable information for both social and biological sciences. We are still trying to figure out how to make the most of it,” explained Cristianini.
