Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday got flak for criticising the role of Pakistani universities in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

The minister, in a tweet, had said: "Where are Pak Universities? Everywhere in the world Universities are providing guideline to the Govts through leading reserach and policy papers, why Pak Unis are silent spectators?"

Shortly after his tweet, Twitteratis slammed the federal minister asking him to reflect on his own actions before pointing fingers at others.

In other countries in the world the state provides sufficient resources to universities to be able to set up adequate research facilities. In our country, the state chooses to spend more on defense spending instead. Apne girebaan mein jhaanko before you start pointing fingers.

Set up centres of excellence in every subject and replace the outdated university education in #Pakistan. Two years already gone. There should have been one in each major cities like #Karachi, #Lahore and #Islamabad by now. #PTI govt could not set up one in #KP in 7 yrs.

'How can they research without funding'

"The present government has slashed the education budget to such an extent that the institutions have to pay teachers salaries by taking loans. How do you expect them to conduct researches," asked one Twitter user.

The federal government, despite making tall claims of developing the education sector, allocated a mere 2.8% for education from the total 2019-20 budget.

Great motivational speech by the honourable Fuwwad Chowdary.

He is a long term Bakht of the True Leader.

He has promised Mars landing within 5 years with his own research with no help from mainstream academia.

Selective tweet posting and labeling it twitter erupts? And this is where i thought the pathetic Patwari brigade cant stoop any low but they surprise me every time. So instead of propagating leftist propaganda specially by universities such as Lums and others, what else have they really contributed? Fawad is absolutely right and spot on in criticizing these so called torch bearers of education when in reality they are but a Mafia and all they do is to milk more and more money and promote liberal BS, aurat march, mera jism meri marzi nonsense.

Neither the minister, nor the Universities are at fault. Fawad Chaudhry is a lawyer who has been given the charge of ministry of Science and Technology (lol) and he is just confused that why the nerds in the universities are not doing "science stuff". This just shows Fawad's innocence with regard to knowledge of how universities of a third world country function.

The education sector of Pakistan has been neglected by the feudal leaders of Pakistan for decades because they don't value education. Our universities do not produce great minds. They create extremely average people so they can blend in the society.

In order for the universities to be in a position to advice the government, the universities need to have years of expertise in the field of biotechnology and and medical sciences. Here in our country, the top medical universities are only known around the world for an above average MBBS degree, not research in the field of pandemics, vaccines, quarantines or biotechnology. If you ask the vice chancellor of any local university on corona virus, he will probably google all the information before briefing the government officials.

Either we can start building such universities with excellent culture of innovation or we can keep creating only average, everyday doctors for the public hospitals of Pakistan. For that we need to have funds, and a lot of them. Without such provisions by the government officials look kind of dumb asking for vaccines, dictation or whatever the Lawyer is asking for.

The political leadership cannot even provide them with personal protection equipment for the time being, I think the priorities of the government need to be set straight for the next few months.

By the way Twitter has helped the Pakistani people to learn a lot of things about our politicians. Jackie Chan once said in the movie Rush Hour :

Thanks for sharing. It only shows Pakistan needs to work extra hard and Improve the education system to world class standard. I don't know why our government representives are making these kind of comments. I really hope Pakistan can make atleast one university which is one of the best in the world.

Many top US universities are private. If Pakistani universities provide quality graduates and research, industries will automatically provide them grants and donations for further research.

Personally don’t like this Fazool Chawal but he said right thing.
There is no funding needed to do normal research or explore their fields in Unis. But again in total the DNA of a nation i.e Sab HadHaram.
Muslim scientists and scholars raised from very unlimited resources and there are dozens muslims heroes, Sigh! Ye HadHarami

Nida Kirmani ( anti Army ) , the New ( Mir Shakeel ) and 6,7 tweets from all over Pakistan sums it well .
