Turkmenistan offers Pakistan 1000 MW of electricity

Afghanistan not necessarily be included in Pak-Turkmen electric or gas connection.
Both, pipe line or overhead line, both can be routed through Iran, quite conveniently.

Will the Minister for Water and Power be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that electricity will be purchased from Kirgistan and Tajkistan; if so, the present status of the said project; and
(b) the total amount of units in MW will be purchased alongwith the rates thereof?

Minister for Water and Power (Raja Pervaiz Ashraf):
(a) A project named CASA-1000 MW is under consideration for importing 1300 MW power from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan for Afghanistan and Pakistan respectively. It is estimated that 300 MW will be available for Afghanistan and 1000 MW for Pakistan only during five (5) months of a year. Actual availability of power will be confirmed after finalization of feasibility study, which is under process. After commencement of work it will take tentatively four (4) years before we receive power at our Grid. Actual construction period will be finalized when Agreements are signed. Tentative cost of electricity is approximately 8.5 US Cents/ KWh. However, actual Tariff will be finalized at the time of signing of the agreement.

(b) Approximately 3700 Gwh of energy will be supplied in the month of May, June, July, August and September.
