3 FETO-linked California schools face closure
Los Angeles Board of Education expected to vote next week on district recommendations to close schools

WASHINGTON

Three charter schools in Los Angeles that are linked to the Fetullah Terror Organization (FETO) could be shut down for bringing in teachers from Turkey, the Los Angeles Times newspaper reported Wednesday.

The FETO-linked schools -- the largest charter schools networks in the U.S. -- are usually gathered under umbrella organizations and are managed through foundations. There are about 140 schools in total across the country.

Residing in Pennsylvania since 1999, FETO's ringleader and alleged mastermind behind a recent failed coup in Turkey, Fetullah Gulen is known as the man who controls the schools and the $500 million annual income he gets for them from the U.S. government, according to U.S. media reports.

Approximately 10 of the schools are in California, operating under the name Magnolia.

According to the newspaper, the Magnolia schools has for years relied heavily on using temporary work visas to import Turkish teachers.

The five-year operating agreements for the staff, however, at the Magnolia Science Academy 1 in Reseda, Magnolia Science Academy 2 in Van Nuys and Magnolia Science Academy 3 in Carson -- which are currently under review -- are about to expire.

Federal authorities could decide to approve or deny renewal applications in the coming days but officials at the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) sent an email to the schools Tuesday that said that it would recommend denial.

The newspaper said the city’s Board of Education is expected to vote next week on the recommendations.

If the recommendations are unanimously accepted, the three charter schools would be shut down.

Although the LAUSD has not yet officially release its decision on the closures, sources told the newspaper that "one major issue is Magnolia’s foreign workers" whose majority entered the U.S. with H1-B working visas to teach.

According to U.S. law, H1-B visas can be extended for a maximum of six years and are supposed to be used only when there are no qualified U.S. citizens for jobs.

The newspaper said the charter school group applied for visas for 138 individuals. It adds that 97 of eventually worked in the past for Magnolia and 37 are still employed by the Gulen schools.

By law, Magnolia is required to cover the visa-related costs of the applications, which is about $3,000 for each employee. It must also pay visa costs of employees' spouses and children.

According to Magnolia Chief Executive Caprice Young, the LAUSD estimated the total visa cost at about $929,000.

The newspaper said LAUSD officials will consider not only spending of public education funds on visas, but also employment of foreign nationals over American workers.

The district will also take into account that Magnolia schools engaged in "poor financial management and inconsistent or incorrect internal policies," according to the newspaper.

In an interview with the paper in August, Magnolia’s governing board member Umit Yapanel admitted he was a Gulen follower.

Some of FETO's U.S. schools are currently under the FBI investigation for irregularity, unlawful profits, corruption, fraud and forgery of documents.

@Sanchez i think you are not aware of punishment you are going to meet, if you proceed to provocate the members with using the PKK terrorist organization instruments. Turkey never supplied help to illegal organizations in China, neither money, passport; nor weapons like you claimed. Such an imaginary excuse won't save your day if the subject is the PKK terrorist organization and its net propaganda made/supported by a Chinese in Turkey section. Just for your information. Next time, i will not explain it to you this way. Supporting a blood-thursty terrorist organisation requires a bloody punishment in our section. No reason can be used as an excuse

@Ottoman123 Do Not call the name of a nation with an animal name while countering your rival in a debate. It is deleted so i just warn you about it.

German court sentences PKK terrorist to 3.5 years in prison

A German court has sentenced a PKK suspect to 3.5 years in prison for providing support to a terrorist organization on Thursday.

According to reports, Stuttgart State Court handed down a jail term for Ali Ö., who was detained in February 2015.

He has been charged with 'collecting funds for a terrorist organization' and 'being a member of a terrorist organization.'

The court said that the suspect has been supporting terrorist activities in Germany's Kiel, Saxony, and Stuttgart regions since 2010.

It also highlighted that the PKK is a foreign terrorist organization.

The prosecutor had demanded a 4.5 year prison term for Ali Ö. when he was detained in 2015.

PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and the United States.

Formed in 1978, the terrorist group has been fighting the Turkish government for an independent state until the early 2000's. The group then shifted its goal to autonomy in predominately Kurdish inhabited regions of Turkey.

The PKK is affiliated with PYD, which is present in Syria and is recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey.

Western countries long claimed that the PYD is not a terrorist organization but U.S. officials, including Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, admitted that there are links between the PKK and the PYD and its armed-wing, YPG.

Six of main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's police security guards, who are responsible for protecting his house in the capital, allegedly have links with the Gülenist terror group (FETÖ).

According to reports, two out of six police working for Kılıçdaroğlu were dismissed from profession following the July 15 failed coup attempt for their alleged links.

The remaining four were amongst 12,801 officers suspended from duty on October 3, following an investigation on Ankara Police Department.

The six police officers worked as security guards at Kılıçdaroğlu's house located in Ankara's Çukurambar district.

Meanwhile, reports said that an investigation has revealed Kılıçdaroğlu's close protection officers have no links with FETÖ.

On July 15, a group of rogue soldiers linked to the FETÖ attempted to topple the democratically elected government in Turkey and impose martial law.

The attempt was prevented by the military loyal to the government along with police units and millions of people in favor of democracy. Over 230 civilians were killed and 2,191 people were injured.

FETÖ is accused of infiltrating state institutions including the police, judiciary and military with the aim of taking over the democratically elected government.

Turkey suspends over 180 judges, prosecutors over FETO
Turkey’s top judicial board decides to suspend 184 judges and prosecutors over coup-linked messaging app

ANKARA

Nearly 200 judges and prosecutors have been suspended from their duties for using a smartphone messaging app linked to the July 15 coup attempt, Turkey’s top judicial board announced Thursday.

A total of 184 judges and prosecutors have been temporarily removed from duty pending the conclusion of an investigation, the Turkish Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) said.

ByLock is said to have been used by members of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), which the government has said was behind the attempted takeover, which martyred 241 people and wounded nearly 2,200 others.

The app is believed to have been cracked by Turkish security agencies before the coup, prompting the plotters to switch to the WhatsApp messaging service but not before tens of thousands of FETO suspects had been identified.

Turkey accuses FETO, which is led by U.S.-based Fetullah Gulen, of organizing the defeated coup as well as a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.

More than 3,400 FETO-linked judges and prosecutors have so far been discharged by the board following the bid.

Malaysia sent back three fugitive members of Gülenist terror group (FETÖ) on Thursday upon the request of the Turkish government, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said.

Speaking during an opening ceremony in southern Antalya province on Friday, Çavuşoğlu said that Turkish intelligence is working in cooperation with many countries over the extradition of Gülenist members and the closure of FETÖ-affiliated schools located in foreign countries.

"During my Asia Cooperation Dialogue's Ministerial meeting last week, the Malaysian prime minister told me that they will send three FETÖ members back to Turkey and upon my return to Turkey, we started mutual contact and the terrorists were returned to Turkey yesterday," Çavuşoğlu said.

Reiterating Turkey's determination to bring all FETÖ members to justice whether they are in Turkey or already on the run, the top diplomat said it is highly likely that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will dub the group a terrorist organization next week.

On Thursday, foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states designated the FETÖ group a "terrorist organization", stressing their support for the Turkish government's recent moves against the group.

FBI, Turkey join forces against FETÖ's money laundering scheme

Authorities seized assets of Bank Asya last year. The lender allegedly acted as intermediary for money laundering scheme of Gülenists.
Turkey has launched joint efforts with the FBI against a money laundering scheme by FETÖ accused of funneling ‘donations' to the group to U.S.-based companies and associations, Turkish media reports

Amid efforts to curb the financial sources of the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ), which is blamed for the July 15 coup attempt, Turkish officials have joined forces with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as it was revealed the group sought to funnel money to U.S.-based companies. Daily Sabah reported that FETÖ, whose leader Fethullah Gülen currently resides in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania, resorted to several schemes to "smuggle" himmet, the name the group gives to donations it received voluntarily, through blackmail or extortion, abroad. Himmet funds were diverted to FETÖ-linked companies and associations in the United States, drawing the attention of the FBI, Sabah reported, adding that close to $5 million in money transfers took place between FETÖ-linked companies and accounts in Turkey. The FBI is investigating whether the transfers were part of a money laundering scheme at a time when the terror group faces intense anti-terror operations in the wake of the foiled coup attempt by troops loyal to Gülen.

Bank Asya, formerly owned by Gülenists before a legal process ended with the state appointment of trustees, is at the heart of the investigations. Turkish authorities revealed that under a pretext of "loans" to companies abroad, Gülenists used donations diverted to the lender for money transfers to their own companies.

Since the two coup attempts in 2013, Turkey detained and arrested hundreds of FETÖ members in a string of investigations into the group's crimes, ranging from terrorism to sham trials thanks to its infiltrators within judicial and police institutions. The crackdown elevated after the foiled putsch attempt in July when a Gülenist junta killed more than 240 people standing against them. Like other terrorist groups, FETÖ is involved in schemes to launder money and often switches accounts among its group members and their unsuspecting relatives to cover up their tracks.

The group was controlling a massive business empire thanks to its broad network of companies run by business people loyal to the group before authorities moved to seize the companies and assets of the suspected terrorists to cut off funds to FETÖ. Sabah newspaper reports that through money laundering via the United States, the terror group tried to protect its monetary resources that have significantly dwindled due to a financial crackdown by Turkey.

Police have already launched a nationwide investigation into Bank Asya, taken over by watchdog Savings and Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) last year and other companies affiliated with FETÖ. A state-run financial crimes board assists the police in the scrutiny of companies supplying much-needed resources to Gülenists. Inquiries revealed that the group's members, tipped off beforehand on operations thanks to Gülenist infiltrators within law and judiciary enforcement, mobilized to transfer money abroad using Bank Asya. Donations diverted to Bank Asya accounts used as loans for foreign-based companies were set up exclusively for these transfers. Authorities revealed more "donations" were then used to pay back the loans. Some TL 14.5 billion ($4.6 billion) was found sent abroad after the two coup attempts in 2013.

U.S. banking authorities were alarmed over an unusual amount of money transfers to the country where any transfer over $5,000 can be screened for money laundering suspicions. FETÖ's scheme to use "donations" to fund its companies abroad is an unprecedented plot for money laundering, Sabah reports.

A special unit set up at the Turkish National Police is in touch with the FBI while Ankara calls on the U.S. to seize the money used in laundering.

Another scheme revealed after the July 15 coup attempt shows FETÖ was also transferring money to its supporters in Turkey from companies abroad under the disguise of foreign loans and sometimes by special couriers bringing wads of cash to FETÖ supporters in Turkey. Sabah claims money was used to support group members infiltrated into the state following their detentions and dismissals in the wake of the coup attempt including "hush money" to prevent them from speaking out against the group.
