Probably they didn't expected such a salutation. I wonder what they will do next time.

That's because our soldiers/police only replies to Turkish words not foreign language. That's Turkish officials fault for not informing the Afghan Presedent.

As you can see German Chancellor Merkel greets soldiers in Turkish, saying "Merhaba Asker" - 2:00

Ofcourse they didn't expect that. Doesn't matter who you are; American President, Kenya PM or Sultan of Brunei, as a necessity of political courtesy, visitors should salute soldiers in home side's way. Mr. President must choose well his advisors

Selam Aleykum is part of the Turkish vocabulary. It's not like they didn't understand or anything.

I do agree that they should've informed the Afghan member of Parliament before hand on how to greet. But our forces should've acknowledged the greet in some sort of way instead of doing nothing (ayip oldu bence). Even a head nod would've sufficed. Or the platoon leader could've been the only one to accept the greet on the platoon's behalf or something. In my opinion our soldiers and police that take part in ceremonies like that, also need to have a contingency plan for when something like this occurs.
