The thing is 2 Juan Carlos-class LHD’s are planned to be built in which one is already in construction. When we put the advantages of getting HMS Ocean, such as familiarization with amphibious assault ships until TCG Anadolu becomes operational, we would have 2 two Juan Carlos type LHDs and one LHA which would be the Ocean. Now, why would we be needing 3 of these mighty ships when even the Amphibious Naval Infantry Brigade will have a shortage of personnel to deploy on these ships, also the Armored and Artillery battalions of the brigade would be required to be modernized and enlarged which of course would take years.

Plus the America class doesn’t even have a well deck. We’d have to buy more helicopters to make the America LHD even useful.
The marines are getting the V22 tiltrotor exactly for this purpose. I doubt we have an extra billion for a whole new type of aircraft.
