Turkish man sues wife for repeatedly cursing Erdogan
A Turkish man has reportedly sued his wife for repeatedly insulting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and changing the channel whenever he is broadcast on TV.
“I kept on warning her, saying why are you doing this? Our president is a good person and did good things for Turkey,” Ali D, a 40-year-old truck driver, was quoted as saying by the Turkish Yeni Safak newspaper.
According to the report, he had warned his wife multiple times to stop disrespecting their president, but his wife of three years continued her insults daring him to, "Record and lodge a complaint."
“Even if it is my father who swears against or insults the president, I would not forgive and I would complain,” explained her husband, after recording his wife and presenting it as evidence for a case he lodged with prosecutors in the town of Izmir.
After becoming informed of the legal action being pursued against her, she filed for divorce.
The bizarre incident comes amid growing concerns over the spiking numbers of media and ordinary persons -- even children -- being taken to court for insulting Erdogan.
Last year, a doctor was taken to court after publishing a post on Facebook that likened the Turkish president to Gollum from the Lord of the Rings movies.
