Polish-American Black Hawk over Turkey

Sikorsky received a prototype made in PZL Mielec a helicopter, which will be the foundation launched by the Turkish government just two weeks before the Turkish helicopter Multidisciplinary Program (TUHP). Its aim is to build a fleet of multi-tasking machines T70 based on a Black Hawk helicopter.

The ceremony was taking a helicopter involved a large group of high-ranking representatives of the Turkish Podsekretariatu for the Defense Industry (SSM) and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), Aselsan and Alp Aviation, which is co-program TUHP. The machine with the Polish registration marks SP-YVB, the prototype of the Turkish variant, the new variant was presented at the beginning of June, but was first flew on 27 February 2015.

From previously produced at PZL Mielec 36 helicopters of this type is distinguished not only unusual camouflage camouflage and inscriptions operating in Turkish. List of the modifications introduced by PZL Mielec includes crane rescue, internal auxiliary fuel tank, hook for transporting cargo (cargo hook), Integrated Management System efficiency (IVHMS), de-icing system of propeller and rotor brake.

April 28 the same copy of the S-70i number 037 (SP-YVB), before applying the current camouflage, performed without problems - carried out in PZL Mielec for the first time - a series of unusual flight technical suspended external load. The load weighing 2750 kg were placed in a grid of lines suspended to an external cargo hook. Also tested winch built-up on the right side of the fuselage above the cabin door transport.

At the beginning of 2017 years, Sikorsky transport the prototype machine from Mielec to Ankara, where it will be tested to work with the new avionics system, developed jointly by Sikorsky and the Turkish company Aselsan, specializing in military electronics. Both companies will use the helicopter for flight testing and verification of the quality of avionics system, developed to correspond to the needs of users T70.

Agreement contract agreed the governments of the US and Turkey, TAI gives license to build and provide a total of up to 300 helicopters T70 (109 in the standard version plus 191 optional). Their customers will be six Turkish agencies, not just the military. In addition to the ground forces, air and special and gendarmerie and the police state, these machines will receive the General Directorate of Forests.

PZL Mielec employees have to provide technical and production support, and training of technical and engineering TAI - both in Turkey and Poland. First built in Turkey T70 is to be certified and qualified to provide the Turkish government in 2021 years.

Over the next two years, PZL Mielec will produce the first five cabins, which TAI will install the T70. The cab is an important structural component of the structure of the helicopter. On it is mounted bearing system of the engine, transmission and rotor, fuel tanks, landing gear, weapons systems and equipment. Therefore, the need to carry large and different as static and dynamic loads. It has approximately the size of the middle class supply car weighs just over one ton and consists of approx. 3 thousand. part of the genre.

Production of the cabin takes about 40 days and I convinced the CEO of PZL Mielec Janusz Zakrecki, is the company's good business: in 2015. Up to 60 percent. revenue record label came precisely from the production of cabins for S-70. Their delivery Mielec began in 2009., And 14 March this year, the Americans handed over 300 cockpit. Some of them used in PZL Mielec, where it is merged with the other elements of the structure of the helicopter. Those that are sent to the Sikorsky plant are used in machines Black Hawk, designed for the US military on the same basis as cabin built in the factory in the USA. Quality of work plant in Poland is highly valued by Americans.

Lockheed Martin, based in Bethseda, Maryland, is a global company with industry safety and aviation technology. Throughout the world, employs nearly 125 thousand. people. PZL Mielec currently employ approx. 1,550 employees. In the statements of representatives of the management of the American company Mielec plant is recognized as the largest production facility of Lockheed Martin outside the United States. PZL Mielec is attributed essential for the implementation of international strategy Lockheed Martin.

The place of production of the Turkish variant of the Black Hawk will be located near Ankara TAI facilities. The US company did not provide information on the scale of investment that will be made here in connection with the production of T70. It emphasizes, however, that it will be investing the Turkish side, not the US.

Representatives of LM and PZL Mielec in fact build on TAI potential similar to the potential of PZL Mielec, do not see the danger - through the mechanisms of competition in the product with the same characteristics and purpose - for the future of the Mielec factory. The inclusion of Turkey in the production chain Black Hawks, is presented as a step towards allowing to reach those customers who, for political reasons or because of other obstacles, not be reached immediately for Sikorsky and PZL Mielec. It indicates mainly on countries in the region neighboring Turkey, for example. The northern part of the African continent.

ASELSAN Selects CoreAVI’s Safety Critical OpenGL Driver and DO-178B DAL A Certification Package for its latest Avionics Mission Computer and Turkey’s Sikorsky Aircraft’s S-70i BLACK HAWK Helicopter

Core Avionics & Industrial Inc (“CoreAVI”) announced today that its OpenGL SC driver suite for the AMD Radeon™ E8860 graphics processor has been selected and successfully integrated on ASELSAN’s new advanced mission computer product line and Turkey’s Sikorsky Aircraft’s S-70i™ BLACK HAWK Helicopter. ASELSAN’s multi-function display system is utilizing CoreAVI’s OpenGL SC driver version that is configured for multi-core platforms, thereby enabling ASELSAN to unlock the full potential of advanced graphics across multi-core processing in a safety-critical platform. The collaboration between ASELSAN and CoreAVI includes the FAA DO-178B / DO-254 Level A avionics safety certification for the new advanced mission computer system.

CoreAVI’s suite of real-time OpenGL drivers, DO-178B and DO-254 certification packages, and 20-year component supply programs provide avionics and safety critical system manufacturers with low risk, high performance, and platform-scalable avionics graphics solutions. CoreAVI provides an extended temperature screened version of the AMD Radeon™ E8860 graphics processor and its related graphics driver products empowers avionics system manufacturers with an extremely scalable “power per watt” performance graphics processor to support a wide range of display and parallel processing applications in multi-core and multi-guest operating system virtualized environments.

“CoreAVI has proven through many successful avionics and safety certification programs that they are an important AMD Embedded business partner, enabling AMD Radeon graphics and SoC processors to be used in worldwide avionics systems” said Colin Cureton, director of enterprise product management, AMD. “We are pleased to see another successful collaborative effort between AMD and CoreAVI to support ASELSAN’s latest significant product milestone.”

“Based on the capability to meet our stringent high performance, functional and safety-critical certification requirements, Aselsan selected the AMD Radeon E8860 GPU and CoreAVI’s OpenGL SC drivers and DO-178C certification package for our next generation multi-functional mission computer product line,” said Yüksel Serdar, Head of Avionics Business Line at ASELSAN. “By using CoreAVI’s suite of certifiable graphics products, we are able to take advantage of high performance graphics to achieve a wide range of new and unique product features, address avionics certification and utilize their 20-year component supply program to support our customers long after most other graphics components enter manufacturing end-of-life.”

“We are excited to be working with ASELSAN and providing our graphics products for Turkey’s Sikorsky Aircraft’s S-70i™ BLACK HAWK Helicopter,” said Lee Melatti, President of CoreAVI. “Based on these successful product integrations, CoreAVI recognizes that ASELSAN is well positioned to continue its rank as a world-leading supplier of avionics display and mission computer systems.”
