What's new

Turkish airspace closed to Israel, Erdoan says

That was actually never true. Some places started reporting on it and it picked up speed but the government never announced it. It is likely Erdogan will be out of office soon anyway then we can start cleaning up this rift he is causing with the U.S. I don't much care for Israel though.

Is there any chance for the Turkish military to regain control to protect the secular state?

They were it was called operation sledgehammer. Mostly retired old school military guys were going to remove him but his party got wind of it and they got arrested.

Ya..I know. That was a humiliation for the military to have their members paraded in TV like criminals. I was surprised the military let him stay on after that.

Anything else in the winds?

I don't think so. We will have to see the elections to see if he gets elected again. I don't see that happening. CHP will come into power and everything will be secular again.

Solomon you are totally missing the point, again it has nothing to do with his islamic principles or agenda, the fact is Isreal has committed crimes against Turkish nationals in International waters -
No, that's just what Erdogan is repeating over and over. The facts are now well-known: the militants planned to attack the Israeli boarding party, which had the right - and gave proper notification - to board and inspect the ship under international law. Each one of the militants desired "martyrdom", or failing that, at least to maim, murder, or take hostage an Israeli.

Turkey has every right to defend itself, why should it let Isreali killers pass over its airspace since they have not apologised for the incident.
Don't you get it? That's what Erdogan is trying to turn this into, supporting a terrorist act and elevating it into a national security issue to radicalize the country.

Looks like this Erdogan guy wants to be the next poster boy :D
Looks like he has figured out the best possible way to do that.

By the way, what happened to his going in the next aid ship? still packing his briefcase? A publicity stunt as always.

he's a President of a country, and you're calling him ''guy''

doesnt reflect very well on you....

Diplomatically, Turkiye has ''won''

the world attention on the blockade has sky-rocketed manifold. So even if the aid on the ship (the one which israilys stormed and shot up, in international waters) was not delivered -- the message sure as hell was!

I laugh uncontrollably when i see hindustanys on this forum STILL trying to defend the actions of their transactional ally.

They can sell you some communication equipments, and next you can add star of david to the saffron flag :tup:

Absolutely this is a PR stunt. Erdogan is sucking up to the Arabs.

or maybe he is punishing israil for killing his citizens? Maybe he is trying to protect the interests and honour of his country?

just a thought :coffee:

He has said he wants to run one more time for office but i don't see that happening. He is casuing such a rift that it is making Turkey's number 2 party (CHP) and number 3 (MHP) join ties to get this guy out of office.

i find it very difficult to ever find a common ground between MHP and CHP.

CHP are market socialists, MHP are purely nationalists with anti-socialist agenda

Its more realistic that DSP and CHP form alliance; MHP will always be MHP by itself, even though it seems they are also trying to get the support of more Islamist elements in the country

AKP has the money (a lot of it) and the resources. So who knows who will win the next election.

Turkiye has had the chance to let its civil institutions grow. But Turkish politics are QUITE messy. Kind of like Pakistani politics, though a bit more orderly and less chaotic in nature.

I still remember the huge rift that took place between PM Erdogan and the Dogan media group.

p.s. as Mayor of Istanbul, Mr. Erdogan did some INCREDIBLE things; especially on infrastructure and development projects. He has been credited thusly. However, some people in Turkiye feel that he is a bit too ''rough'' to be a leader.

He is from Kara Deniz region (Rize), they are tough people over there :)

as if israel gives a damn.....

I think you don't realize the political implications. israil has quickly lost one of its only Muslim allies in the region.

Turkiye loses hardly anything, though they were hoping to use their political influence to help promote peace and devise a solution to Palestine-israil conflict.

Now that hope is late. All Turkiye really loses is a little bit of pocket change from israily tourism. That is already being made up for by the tourism of people coming from Syria and GCC countries alone.

I am personally a witness to it as I have lived in Turkiye.

israil is not playing its cards right at all; they never really have. They act first and then think later. Either that, or they just dont really care.

Gambit -- you turn a blind eye when israil bombed the daylights out of the USS Liberty :)

convenient!

The EU blew that Dogan Media Group thing up too. Another thing for us to improve they say. I swear by the time we get into the EU we will be more developed then every member nation already in it.

Erdogan has done some good stuff but he isn't right for Turkey. Send him over to Pakistan maybe ? I am sure he would do some heavy handed reforming there. I do believe CHP and MHP are working together. I think MHP knows it will be hard for them to be elected but if they could get more seats in parliament by helping CHP out it would benefit them. Since DTP is gone. Idk if CHP alone can remove AKP. We will see though how everything turns out in the elections.

Turkey is not responsible for the follies of its citizens. No government is so responsible

Can I quote you on that in the future?

Especially when the topic of non-state actors is brought up ;)

Which is/was not threatened in any way.

unarmed civilians WERE killed in a most inappropriate and appalling way

I'm sorry to see that the U.S. never took action over Rachel Corrie, the victims of USS Liberty; or any other American citizen killed by israil

I'm sorry that your country priority-rushed laser guided bombs to israil instead of sending rescue boats for stranded U.S. citizens in Beirut, during the 2006 hostilities.

I can see where you're coming from, bud. :azn:

With all due respect, I am publicly questioning your patriotism.

You have no problem with pak members on this forum calling president of Pakistan by all names - Mr. 10% , Chor and what not.

You dont have to worry obout Indians, We provide much more aid and help to palestine than what pakistan does.

As far his particular incident is concerned, Turkish govt. planned all this propaganda for their ulterior motives and some muslim members are falling for that.

AKP wants to have a larger role for turkey in the Islamic world and also Erdogan has to fight a election next year, what better way to increase your vote banks.

I do actually, though I definately didn't vote for him; and have no positive feelings for him (to be honest).

next you hindustanys will say that he asked the israilys to kill the civilians too.....
