Turkey's EU membership hits a wall

And how are Australia and New Zealand Western Countries when they are located in the Pacific ??? LOL

Maybe because they were founded by Westerners. They have Western ideology, predominately western populations, have a constitution enshrined in western philosophy and beliefs, speak in western languages, have western religion, etc.

Need I continue?

Any country located on the European continent is European. Turkey having a small sliver of land besides Greece does not mean that it makes all of Turkey a European country.

By that same analogy, France could have been seen as a Middle Eastern Country due it had Algeria but every single White French person was kicked out of Algeria because even though they lived in Algeria since 1830 they were still seen as outsiders.

So Turkey needs to realize that its not a European country but a Middle Eastern one. Don't know why Turkey thinks that is a downgrade.
European continent is not set in stone; it constantly changed over the time. Most of the Eastern Europe not long ago called as Near East, as to western scholars, it was the most eastern part of the orient. Middle-east mostly used today for the areas of Levant and its larger region. Nowadays scholars started to use Middle-East in the contexts of Iran, Afghanistan and in some cases Pakistan.

This shows us that being European is measured by ideas but not by owning some piece of land that happens to be in what we call today central Europe. And what these ideas are? It's simple: liberal democracy, human rights, egalitarianism, freedom of speech, civil liberties. I guess Turkey is more European in these areas than Middle-Eastern. But on the other areas, such as eating of kebabs and humus, being a Muslim majority, Turkey is diverse from what you would call Europe. But this diversification also exists between France and UK, Norway and Italy, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, Iran and Pakistan.

You are right, geographicaly "Europe" is ever changing....However anyone with common sense realises Europe has a common culture...which it does NOT share with Turkey. You could plunk all the Turks in the middle of France, still not "European."

Any more than moving everyone in Kansas to Bejing would make them "Chinese."

If that were true...we wouldn't have seen Nationalism at its very worst (We are different and BETTER) manifest itself in the form of the two Great Wars ! And besides...a culture is intrinsically linked to a language and in Europe's case every nation has a distinct language of its own ! Case in point : Pakistan is an amalgamation of dozens of ethnicities and linguistic groups with each having a culture and a history of their own ! Perhaps, like Pakistan, one might argue that religion or more appropriately, Judeo-Christian values and perhaps Secular Humanism now, is what was and is common throughout Europe !

Turkey - Healthy Man Of Europe
In contrast to the rest of Europe, especially its neighbour, Turkey is enjoying growth figures most can only dream of. David O’Byrne discovers how the once-troubled economy has turned its fortunes around

Healthy Man Of Europe - CNBC Business

We are doing just fine without EU. It is still our biggest market though...

asia times online is becoming a joke, seriously why would Turkey want to join the EU, as more and more EU countries fold under their piles of debt im waiting for the headlines "EU illegal migrants flood Turkey looking for work" ;)

Compared to most cities of Turkey and Europe, Kansas and most of the US cities are artificial. Also Europe, Middle East is obviously much more culturally diverse than you claim it to be. Even a distant but focused observer can see that Europe doesn't have a common culture, but as I said in my previous post, it did create a more or less a common philosophy in the last centuries that you can call as European.

.
I think the western Turks are genetically closer to the Greeks, but just following the different culture and religion.

. .
I guess there's no harm in trying for Turkey. I doubt they'll ever make it though. If anything, they'll have a case of discrimination from the EU and could use this to their advantage when needed.

.
This is quite relevant to your post. Enjoy!

Well, the Europid/Caucasoid race does not solely belong to Europe, but it belongs to the Middle East/North Africa/some part of South Asia as well.

But in the eyes of the white supremacists, only the Northwest Europeans count as the pure white race. :coffee:

Turkiye uses UE to lift up its own democracy and human rights . Being an EU member is not a goal for Turkiye since 2000. We have said here maybe million times, we Turks do not want to be a member of EU. Because we have different religions(this is main reason why EU doesnt want us) and cultures. Therefore, Turkiye is not part of EU.

Everyone knows that EU is not an economical union. Thats why the latest EU members are very poor and behind of Turkiye. Even Greece was not able to be a member. I said "EU will fail" after Greece became a member. Again everyone knoes that Greece is failed and this is just beginning.

This is the picture of EU. What kind a fool would join this failing union? Many of you think Turkiye really wants to be a member of EU. This is wrong. Current gov. of Turkiye wants just gain our democracy nothing-else. Also 80% of Turks do not want to join EU.

We are talking about European Union genius

genius, I was replying your message below :

How is Southern Cyprus is EU member then while Turkey has a land On Europe, SC has none

You said that How come Turkey is not accepted as an EU member while Southern Cyprus is not located inside Europe but is accepted in the European Union so I gave you an example of Australia and New Zealand which are both not located in the West but are considered Western countries. I was trying to point out the double standard
by Western people.

Combination of factors. Pope is opposed. Majority Muslim (ofc). Anatolia has never been part of Europe. Ottoman prejudice. Many other factors.

More alarming is the arrogance that some uncivilized Turks are showing in the matter in this topic. I hope not all turks are so uncivilized.

The heart of civilization is from those grounds.
