Turkey will continue to be a highly popular tourist destination, the report says, recalling that İstanbul, the country's cultural tourism hub, was the fastest growing tourism market among cities in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

With economic downturn, most european tourists are going to nearby destinations, like turkey, czech, poland even montenegro.
We can never hope to have serious tourist traffic until we improve infrastructure. Till now most western tourist who come to India are either indophile, hippy or crazy/adventurous. We need to be able to attract average tourist who wants hassle free fun.

I totally agree, India and Pakistan have wonderful destinations, both cultural and natural. If India can improve her infrastructure and make good advertisements, i'm sure India has the potential to become top 5 destinations.

Within 10-15 years, the level of Infrastructure in India will be sufficient that India will be attracting tourists both from the West and the rich east Asian countries as well. Millions of Chinese can be expected to visit India every year as it is a country that has amazing sights to offer any visitor.

I forgot to mention the other part, a tourist friendly culture. It is not about fake smiles, it is about empathising with visitors, or at least have a friendly and positive demeanour so that the guests enjoy their time.
We should also learn to not to treat white people as walking cash machine, and treat visitors from SAARC region/china well.

BTW Pakistan should follow Turkey, both countries have enough similarities, like Turkey fighting terrorism of PKK & Kurdistan Workers Party & Pakistan fighting terrorism of BLA & TTP, similarly it is unfortunate of both countries that their next door neighbour is their enemy, Greece for Turkey & India for Pakistan, There is foriegn troops in one of their neighbour country, Iraq for Turkey & Afghanistan for Pakistan & both countries enjoy very important geographic locations in the world. Pakistan should give full attention towards economy now & bring back early 2000 days when Pakistan economy was growing 9% annually. Pakistan was termed as Asian Tiger in 60's & look at today where Pakistan stands.

Pakistan is not located as fortunate as Turkey though. Turkey enjoys economic prosperity because it stands between Europe, Asia and Middle East. Whereas Pakistan is located between India and Afghanistan (proxy of USA). For economic prosperity Pakistan fist and furthermost needs to deal friendly with all of its neighbours, the same way Turkey has been doing the past decade. Remember, Turkey was very ill just 10 years ago. But thanks to major adjustments in our foreign and domestic policy we managed to boost our economy and everything else.

Pakistan needs a transparent and corruption-free government, that prioritizes the needs of the people more than anything else. The leaders are there to serve the people, not to full their own pockets with gold.
