Does this mean Turkey is slowly moving away from the NATO? NATO is no longer an alliance but a gang banging organization. What purpose does NATO serve in the post-cold war era?

----------------------------------
ANKARA, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Turkey will go ahead with plans to order a $3.4-billion missile defence system from China, Defence Minister Ismet Yilmaz said, despite U.S. and NATO concerns over security and compatibility of weaponry.

Yilmaz said in a written response to a parliamentary question published on Thursday that Ankara will use the long-range system without integrating it with NATO's system.

Turkey originally awarded the tender to China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corp in 2013, prompting U.S. and NATO officials to say the deal could raise questions over security.

Turkey later said it was in talks with France on the issue, but Yilmaz said no new bids had been received.

"The project will be financed with foreign financing. Work on assessing the bids has been completed and no new official bid was received," the minister said.

"The system in question will be integrated with the national system for Turkey's defence and will be used without integrating with NATO," he added.

Eurosam, which is owned by Franco-Italian missile maker MBDA and France's Thales, came second in the tender.

This sentence is wrong, he never said such a thing.

However he said. "The system in question will be integrated with the national system for Turkey's defence and will be used without integrating with NATO,"

NATO allies were objecting to HQ-9 because they didn't want the missile system to be integrated with NATO systems. This was the big problem and it seems we are going to use HQ-9 as a stand alone.

This still doesn't means that we agreed on procuring HQ-9s but now i can say, most likely. We will be sure after April.

Turkey is moving away from NATO,this deal shows she is not going to put all her eggs in one basket.after all this is matter of national security for Turks and it seems they are not going to trust NATO any more...

Not exactly, bro. The most important thing in this deal is ToT and Joint production. NATO allies refused to share their technology with us but China agreed. So we choose China, instead of NATO partners, simple as that.

.
A NATO country accepting Chinese SAMs has got to be the best marketing and promotion the Chinese defense industry could ever get.

Why would you need ToT from an alleged third world country with nothing but sweatshops making cheap crap?

Why would you need ToT if the weapon system doesn't even work? Are you willing to put the lives of your citizens in peril just because China offered the lowest bid?

The bottom line is that the HQ-9 works.

Turkey has already selected HQ-9 at the first place. Eurosam second, Patriot third. Even if we don't buy the missiles it was enough marketing.

I don't know why you are saying this stuff ? The first parameter is ToT but if HQ-9's performance had not satisfied our officials. Deal would be off. Actually if HQ-9 had not satisfied any of the parameters set by Turkish officials (Performance, ToT & Joint production, Price tag) it would be put out of the tender like Russian S-300.

On a small note, only Chinese officials, let the Turkish officials to set their own scenario while the demonstrating the missile and HQ-9 worked perfectly.

China demonstrated the use of their HQ-9 air defense system at first hand to our national security team that visited China. And its specs are better than our armed forces' requirements.

They also cut the price by $1B even though it was already very cheap, the cheapest of all the other options.

And ToT agreement creates a new matter for our military industry.

Get it Turkey ! Then reverse engineer it. Then share any vital info with us. ;)
Oh, we will surely make the best use of the ToT we will have ;)

. .
Every country has its right to protect itself..

I think Marmara Accident forced Turkey to develop its own defence..

.
Japan will reverse engineer Chinese HQ-9 with the F-35 ;)
When China sell the monkey version of HQ-9 SAMs to any foreign nation, it means Chinese developed new updated HQ-9B or HQ-26 SAMs and soon new toys will equiped by PLA Army.

Who tell u China selling the latest techs to Turkey ? ... just pay for a outdated tech from China anti-aircraft missile family.

That is true, but in reality Turkey can allow NATO the option to look at the system components that can potentially compromise China's newer version.

Just found this online

I'm not putting the system down but this is cool looking.

Also I read this youtube comment, don't know what his source is:

"This HQ-9, export version FD-2000, long range air defense missile had completely beaten Patriot 3 during the open biding competition in Turkey. HQ-9 has 100% hit rate (9 of 9) and the fastest response time (15 secs). It is proof that China's anti-air defense is now better than the US at half the price at US$3.44 billions. Patriot 3 of the US priced at US$7.8 billions. Turkey finally chose HQ-9 as it was far superior but was later stopped by the US."

PLA Army have the better one, the old just for sell ... and don't forget if a NATO nation like Turkey using China HQ-9 and integrate it into current NATO combat system, they also need to provide NATO data links, combat & command API to Chinese engineers.

Turkey didn't just buy HQ-9 missiles, they pay for a whole national defense system ... it means HQ-9's data transmission with their NATO combat & command system.

They won't link it to NATO system.

Turkey says planned Chinese missile defence won't be NATO integrated| Reuters

The system will probably be mounted on this Turkish Truck:

There will probably be other things that are made in Turkey integrated to the HQ-9. I don't know much about this stuff but thats my guess.
