Turkey to acquire heavy lift airplane

An-124,C5 or C17 - Something that can Transport a weight of 100t.

Even the Americans pick 'the beast' when it comes to cheaply lifting serious mass up into the stratosphere... Can the A400M do this?

No way!

C-17 can do about 70 tons (or was it 77?). Nowhere near 100 tons. Though still beats the A400m by quite a bit. AN124 probably can do more than 100T. Turkey should buy whatever it needs aand tell 'the west' to f themselves. That means the HQ-9 too.

I had a conversation some time ago with kul about this plane, thats why i posted it.

The modernized C-5M is a beast.

It's not just about the mass, it's also about internal volume, the haul range, unit price and the cost of operation/maintenance. I don't know what Turkey will end up picking but it sound like the reason they're getting a heavy lifter is so that they don't have to rent overseas every time one is needed.

Here's a video of one of Turkey's T-129 ATAK helicopters coming out of an Il-79 in Poland:

Our A400Ms should deal with their main purposes IMO and they should be always ready for duty...

I'm sure this freighter airplane will be very busy... Not only about defence industry... It can be about so many things... Also we can rent it to friendly and brotherly countries...

Well from what i know there are still 3 C-17 left before the entire production line closes. I suppose thats a valid option beside more A400M's.

judging by the last sentence of establishing a private company to provide its services for other countries

its definitely not a military plane , so C-17 is out of the question and leaves only couple options

new 747-8F or the An-124 , for a single order An is probably the best option

I read only 1 was left. India wants three more. I guess they'll get that single one. Turkey should go the Russian route. Honestly, those rooskies have plenty of very, very desirable kit, for a very good price too. You could probably buy two IL-76s for the price of a C-17. Same capabilities.

A400M is too not bad, we should get all 10 for replacing some other old planes.

This project reminded me the Heavy lift helicopter tender. It was Russian giant helicopter promising the best heavy lift capability to Turkey. They underlined that Mi-26 can even lift what USA offers to Turkey but Turkey's choice became Chinook CH-47. That's why If Turkey seeks a direct-order aerial product, There is just one favorite in Turkish officials minds... USA !

Servicing An-124 will not be easy. Better to go for second hand C-17.. Some of the new airframes were put in storage. Even IAF will have to buy from those..

Any of them will be not easy which will bring additionally costs, that the TuAF has not really have.

I think more one of C-17, as NATO-Country you would have a NATO-Plane.
