Turkey Threatens to Move Away from USA

I thought to post it here instead of the Turkish part of the forum because Turkey, in my opinion, is a pivotal country in the world. Perhaps one of the top three countries with strategic importance. Pardon if this is a duplicate post; in that case, please delete this thread.

First, an Editorial on today's NY Times:

And this is President Erdogan's not-so-coded warning to break away from America, also published today in NY Times. And reading the Comments by Americans, it seems like Turkey is now very thoroughly demonized in America--even in the liberal press.

My personal view is that Turkey was never meant to be part of the EU and a lot of Turks tried to be the wanna-be Europeans even though vast majority of Turks would not seem to be acceptable. I also think that the Turkish Flotilla to Gaza was a point where some forces in America saw a potent threat to Israel. Turkey was going to be cut to its size. I also think Erdogan made a strategic blunder by going after President Assad. I also think it's extremely hypocritical of America's political class to portray Erdogan as a 'Sultan' while also being silent about the biggest theocracy in the world (Saudi Arabia). I also think that American initial response to the recent Turkish coup attempt was a strategic blunder giving plenty of ammo to Erdogan.

Anyway, from now onwards, unless there's a 'regime change' in Turkey, I see Turkey's alienation from America-led West to only grow. It's a sad conclusion: We need bridges in this world and not more divides.

Are sissy's Egypt, hasina's BD, assad's Syria Islamic societies? Which society can be more authoritarian and repressive than these secular states? Do we see the dominance of 'Islamic authoritarian societies' or secular authoritarian societies in the Muslim world? Now don't try to sell that KSA and UAE fall in Islamic category because Islam does not permit a country being the property of a single family or clan.

Turkey is getting stronger and stronger since the Erdogan came to power and his popularity also rose to such high ranks that he became able not only to partially change the secular outlook of Turkey but also managed to switch to presidential system of government much to dismay of its enemies.

It has been a customary of US to change governments in Muslim countries to serve American interest. America supports democracy where democracy serves US interests e.g. Pakistan and US supports dictatorship where dictatorship suits US interests e.g. Egypt, SA. Therefore, the rising Turkey became unacceptable to US interests which resulted in coup attempt by Gulen's supporters for a favorable-to-US regime change as strong Turkey under Erdogan's democratic govt does NOT suit US/Israel in the region.

US want it both ways: hinder strengthening of Turkey socially and militarily AND also wants that Turkey should do nothing in response to negative US policies. Now that Turkey is defiant to US demands and US has failed in regime change in Turkey, US has launched media campaign against Turkey while hitting Turkey financially (to incite social unrest), which will gain momentum, and soon US will start arming the terrorist elements against Turkey; which can be termed as Hybrid War in military terms. This is approximately going to be the same situation for Turkey as has been for Pakistan; embroiled in hybrid war. Although with strong Turkish govt, Turkey can deal with hybrid war in a much better way.

I would say, it was meant to happen regardless of the face... Erdogan or no Erdogan....however I must say, when we let go of the wisdom more than once and indulge is ego boosting but empty displays, we loose..

Why would we leave NATO? I am pretty sure China prefers Turkey to stay in NATO, so we can manipulate NATO easier from inside
