Turkey surpasses Eurozone in GDP growth

This is somewhat surprising. I had assumed the Turks' economy was faring rather poorly, being largely dependent on tourism, and what with the Syrian spillover across their borders.

Well, your wrong Tourism is important but Industry and Service are far more immportant.

Turkish exports in 2010

Turkey's goal for 2023 is to have $2.5 Trillion GDP which will place us just behind the Germany.

By 2023 Turkey is predicted to have a GDP no larger than $1.9 to $2.0 trillion. Also, the Turkish economy is likely to NEVER reach economic parity with Germany. At-least no in our life time. By 2018 the German economy is expected to grow to $4.4 trillion, the UK and French economies at $3.2 and $3.4 trillion while the Turkish will lag WAY behind at $1.2 trillion.

Turkey is nothing and always will be a nothing, even the Ottoman Empire was nothing. Western Europe and Asian cultures have long forgot the Ottomans - only empires like Alexanders, Romes and the British Empire have stood the test of time (from an historic point of view).

You still discussing Ottomans goes contrary to your statement. Ottomans did leave an indelible imprint on your psychology, believe it! :D

Now about the economic prowess of the West, it's not even one century that they have stood on their two feet. 100 years is nothing but a foot note in the history of nations. Asia on the other hand, always was an economic powerhouse, and shall become one, once again!

Damn, why do bring that up again(the Ottomans)?
We had forgotten them allready,if you keep talking about the Ottomans again and again they will never be forgotten, dont you think?

100 years? Do explain. Make sure you include the last 3000 years as opposed to the cookie cutter version of last 1500 years like most Muslims do.

Turkey ranking higher than Germany or any country is not so inportant. What is important is that we close the gap between them and have a budget that will allow Turkey to continue develop more and more. Considering all the fuss about Turkey buying the Chinese HQ-9, it seems to be a quite important country for some people, who actually fear that Turkey might switch sides to the Asian powers. Modestly saying, Turkey is important in its region and slowly it will become more important as she will grow, no matter what your opinion is.

The reason why the British and Roman empire are still glorified and remembered has simply to do with the media, which are in the western hands. Of course they will glorify 'their' empires and brainwash the world with their western ideals and values. The Ottomans, Mongols, Aztecs, ancient Indians and Chinese etc. left behind legacies, but people are (deliberately?) not so much exposed to these empires and cultures in contrast to the Roman, British and Alexander's empire.

I want to ask German Finance Minister's opnion whom said Turkey has no place in Europe...... Of course I'm joking even if we exceed the Germany's GDP, they will still tell us that we have no place in Europe. :D

Turkey has no place in Europe. The European Union is for white, rich, Christian countries like the UK, Germany and France. Not brown, poor, Muslim countries like Turkey.

The Europeans will NEVER let Turkey in the EU...

But Turkey is not catching up. According to the IMF, by 2018 the UK will have a population of 66 million and an economy of $3.2 trillion while Turkey will have a population of 78 million and an economy of $1.2 trillion. The Europeans are still WAY more powerful and WAY more wealthy than the Turks.

Any sources for your rather funny rant?

Who even takes such predictions seriously? UK will have this much GDP in 2023, France this much..and blah blah...

:omghaha:

Who teaches you history, kid?

Funny thing is, Ottomans are more well known than probably ALL Chinese dynasties of the past combined!!!! I am not talking about academic world, but in popular culture..by people around world.

Fcuk, just two days ago...yes just freaking TWO DAYS ago....BBC has started a new series on Ottomans called "Ottomans: The Muslim rulers of Europe" or something like that...

When did BBC launched a comprehensive series for any Chinese dynasty?

Face it, Ottoman Empire was the super power of the world for centuries...It had a presence on multiple continents at once! It controlled most important trade routes and seas of world at that time (Dominated E.Mediterranean)....It interfered in lands as far was present day Indonesia by sending their navies to help their Muslim allies and so forth.

E.Asians never even got out of E.Asia...forget about ever forming a multi-continental empires and becoming super powers

As famous historian Bernard Russel puts it "There have been thousands of cultures, religions, and peoples in human history...but only two cultures have established global civilizations and hence can be called as 'global cultures'... Islamic World and Christian West (Paraphrased)"

Next time, please have a basic history class before embarrassing yourself in an international forum :azn:

True but you need to consider that Turkish citizens will have a lifestyle more akin to a total GDP of 1.6 trillion dollars since things like food, transport and housing costs are cheaper in Turkey than in the UK.

The optimistic point with Turkey is that it is expected to grow at 4-5% a year till 2030, while a country like the UK will have around 1-2% a year. So by 2030, if the predictions are correct, then Turkey is not be too far off the living standards than a country like the UK by 2030.

The other major point that everyone forgets is the "boost" to GDP that Western countries get by being "top-dog". When they are no longer on top, and it will happen - only question is when, their living standards will no longer get this "boost".

I think being a top dog actually works against you, as your labour force will not be competitive and your products will be expensive. Also, coming from a higher base, maintaining growth is difficult, turkey has much more room for growth than say UK.
Only way UK can keep up higher standards is by being more productive (improvement in process, investment in machines etc), cornering market for high value niche products, and investing a lot in branding.
Turkey benefits a lot by being close tu EU.

Well Islam only arose 1434 years ago and changed history. Before that, it was jahiliya so don't blame us :D

On a serious note:
@Hyperion is right...

'East' remained more dominant than West throughout history. Offcourse, there were Romans and intellectual Greeks etc..but 'over-all',

East > West by miles!

East produced more number of dominant civilizations than West did. Thats just a fact! Lets look at general history till 18th century (before industrialization era)...and write the dominant civilizations of different eras (General trend)..

West: Roman Civilization, Greek Civilization

East: Egyptian Civilization (3000 years continuous!), Persian Civilization, Arabic Civilization, Chinese Civilization, Turks (Ottomans, Indian Mughals etc)...

This is a very general list...and you can easily see that more number of dominant civilizations arose from East than West..

And remember, this is when I haven't mentioned ancient dominant civilizations of humanity like Sumerians, Assyrians, Ancient Indians and their achievements etc...All of whom were dominant civilizations of their era and were from East..

Not to mention... First drawings, first writing systems, first cities, first planned cities, first empires, first civilizations etc etc all come from East...

Civilization itself rose in East!

You wanna talk about pre-Islamic era?

Well, lets talk about whole 5000 year of recorded human history...

Europe received its civilization from the Middle East, not the other way around. The heritage of the Sumerian, Babylonian, and Egyptian etc empires and civilizations, their mathematics, writing systems, and middle eastern religions made their way into Europe from the Middle East. The Roman Empire's writing system was ultimately derived from Phoenician. The western world shares alot in common with the Middle East because its civilization is an extension of the Middle East (in very general terms). Babylonian mathematics are the basis for western mathematics. And so on...

Ultimately, we are all humans. This "East" vs "West" definitions only arose in last 200 years...thanks to pathetic Westerners who just wanted to feel the delusion of "We are better"

Of course, it is easier to catch up when you are behind.

Turkey does benefit from being close to EU but it still is not getting a "boost" like the UK is by being part of the Western World.

Who knows how much Western Economies are "boosted" but if it is around 30%, then they are not really that much ahead of a country like Turkey.

This "boost" is never factored in long-range GDP projections for some strange reason:lol:

You are neither a Chinese nor a Yank. You sound more like a disgruntled Armenian or Kurd!

He isn't a Chinese. Most probably some Vietbot or Armenian, he's playing a smooth game though! :D
