India and Turkey are poised to expand economic ties and explore prospects of civil nuclear cooperation when Turkish President Abdullah Gul comes here on Sunday on a five-day state visit.

He will be accompanied by a high-profile business delegation, members of Parliament and senior ministers, including Mehmet Aydin, the state minister and co-chairman of the Joint Economic Commission, health minister Recep Akdag and transportation minister Binali Yildirim.

Mr Gul will also visit Agra and Mumbai, and inaugurate the Turkish consulate in Mumbai. The visit takes place in the shadow of Ankara, allegedly at the behest of Islamabad, keeping New Delhi out of an important conclave it hosted on Afghanistan just ahead of the January 28 London conference.

Dr Manmohan Singh is likely to take up the issue when he meets the Turkish President on Monday to discuss bilateral, regional and global issues. The visit will focus on scaling up economic ties between India, the world’s second fastest growing economy, and Turkey, a vibrant economy located strategically between Europe and Asia.

Turkey, considered close to Pakistan, is looking at India afresh as a rising economy and a knowledge power. The Turkish President, during his interaction with industrialists in New Delhi and Mumbai, is expected to make a pitch for attracting more Indian investment.

Bilateral trade crossed $3 billion in 2008. The two countries are now hoping to cross $6 billion in the near future. Turkey is keen to sign a Free Trade Area Agreement (FTA) with India. The issue will figure in delegation-level discussions between the two sides.

Civil nuclear cooperation is also expected to be discussed between the two sides.

Turkey is keen to harness atomic energy for generating electricity. India, with its advanced nuclear technology, is ready to offer Turkey help in constructing civilian reactors.

“Once Turkey decides to go for nuclear energy and looks for international partners, I am sure India will be under consideration,” India’s ambassador to Turkey Raminder Singh Jassal told Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review, the oldest English-language daily in Turkey, recently.

“We have a quite advanced nuclear industry that dates back decades and decades,” Mr Jassal said, adding that India is capable of constructing a nuclear plant in Turkey.

Nuclear Deal?
Can an Indian friend inform us about the nuclear capabilities of India in civil branch of this technology.
As an example, Which of these things can india manufacture?

''Steel boiler, electromagnetic pump, reflecter control, core protection shell and safety rods''

Can India really provide us civil nuclear technology? can they teach us how to build our own plant? will Turkey be able to earn ability of building his own plant after this cooperation?

we hope to get further information from indian friends,
And why not Pakistan but India? lets discuss this as 2. step.

I dont know much, but India has built heavy water reactors. Designs were based on Canadian reactors, but were made completely indigenously. Whole reactors, so small parts should not be problem. Also, India is doing most of the research on Th/U-233 based plants, and will have thorium based reactors in a decade or so.

Actually, India has lot of experience in civil nuc sector. After 1974s "Smiling Buddha" inflicted sanctions, India has done a lot of research in the field.

Yes here i am to help you out.

I think it is proper to mention that world's best space agency NASA (USA) tie ups and collaborates with Indian ISRO that doesn't mean that ISRO is superior or more advance than NASA.

India have many companies expert in Nuclear Power Plants. They are expert in building Nuclear Power Plants from a to z. With decades of experience, for example Nuclear Power Corporation of India.

Nuclear Power Corporation of India - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Another company which built Nuclear power plant is L&T.

In India, Larsen & Toubro Ltd., the country's biggest engineering and construction company, makes reactor pressure vessels for the country's PHWRs and fast breeder reactor, and steam generators. It plans capacity for ultra-large forgings and holds ASME N-stamp accreditation. It has been involved in supply of equipment, systems and services for nearly all the PHWR reactors that have been indigenously built, including manufacture of calandrias, end-shields, steam generators, primary heat transport system and heat exchangers. In September 2009 it secured an order for four steam generators for Rajasthan 7 & 8, having supplied similar ones for Kakrapar 3 & 4.

Larsen & Toubro - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Following the 2008 removal of trade restrictions, Indian companies led by Reliance Power (RPower), NPCIL and Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) plan to invest over US$ 50 billion in the next five years to expand their manufacturing base in the nuclear energy sector.

State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) (BHEL) claims to be the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energy-related infrastructure sector, and has provided some 80% of the heavy equipment for India's indigenous nuclear power program. It is supplying the steam generators for the first 700 MWe series of reactors, at Kakrapar, based on its design for the 540 MWe units. It is in the process of doubling its production capacity over four years from 10,000 MWe of plant per year (Dec '07), and planned to spend $7.5 billion in two years building plants to supply components for reactor units of 1,600 MWe. It also planned to set up a 50-50 venture with NPCIL that will supply components for nuclear plants of 700 MWe, 1,000 MWe and 1,600 MWe. It is setting up an office in Shanghai in 2009 to source castings and forgings.

BHEL has set up a joint venture with NPCIL to supply turbines for nuclear plants of 700 MWe, 1,000 MWe and 1,600 MWe and to seek overseas partners to provide technology for this enterprise. In July it announced that it was close to finalising a European partner to take 30-35% of this joint venture.

Bharat Forge Ltd (BFL) is a multinational company which claims to be among the largest and technologically most advanced manufacturers of forged and machined components, mostly for the automotive industry. It is said to be the world's second-largest forging company and is extending its activities into the power sector. In 2008 it formed a joint venture with Alstom primarily for manufacturing state-of-the-art supercritical power plant equipment in India, though the enterprise may extend to nuclear applications. In January 2009 it signed a memorandum of understanding with Areva to set up a joint venture in casting and forging nuclear components for both export and the domestic market, by 2012.

HCC (Hindustan Construction Co.) has built more than half of India's nuclear power capacity, notably all 6 phases of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project and also Kudankulam. It specializes in pre-stressed containment structures for reactor buildings. In September 2009 it formed a joint venture with UK-based engineering and project management firm AMEC PLC to undertake consulting services and nuclear power plant construction. HCC has an order backlog worth 10.5 billion rupees ($220 million) for nuclear projects from NPCIL and expects six nuclear reactors to be tendered by the end of 2010.

Why India which can setup Nuclear Power Plants on its own is going for tie ups?

1. To have access to latest technologies and more options.
2. Fuel supply.
3. Opening up of most advance and secrete technologies.
4. More options and freedom from monopoly.
5. Making more friends by giving business to each.
6. So that we can export nuclear power plants.
7. Establishing India as a credible nuclear power.
8. To fast track nuclear power generation to fulfill our ever growing energy requirements.

L&T plans to generate 20,000 jobs this fiscal

January 11, 2010

SURAT: Having a strong order book worth Rs 90,000 crore and immediate expansion plans worth Rs 7,000 crore on cards, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is on a massive recruitment mode. The engineering and construction conglomerate is expected to generate close to 20,000 jobs in next 12 months directly and indirectly.

L&T is expected to invest Rs 25,000 crore in next five years for expanding capacities, port facilities, commissioning of power plants, shipyard and roads, among others. It will commission one new factory in every 3-4 months. “We have committed investments worth Rs 7,000 crore in worst of the time when nobody was willing to take such risks. L&T will emerge as national treasure when market gains momentum on account of its capabilities and talent. I don’t think there is anyone better prepared than us,” Mr Naik said in Surat on Saturday. He added that adequate talent is available to meet company targets since good engineering talent is available now.

L&T group companies with current headcount of about 45,000 will recruit 5,000 technical and non-technical people and 1,500 IT people in next 12 months. It is also claiming to generate over 13,000 indirect employment through contracts.

Mr Naik, a vocal critic of IT sector for taking away engineering talent in call centres and BPOs, said, “In last couple of years, IT companies have not recruited much and hence we will not face troubles in finding the right talent. I believe that engineers should work in the field of engineering and construction. In IT sector, barely 10% of the engineers do what they have studied.” Majority of the new recruitments would be done for L&T group’s major base Vadodara and Hazira in Gujarat.

In last one month only, L&T has bagged orders worth Rs 5,000 crore constructing chemical plants, atomic power station, IT park, material handling units, residential towers, hospital, exhibition centre and factory building projects. In Hazira alone, L&T is setting up seven new factories to manufacture equipment for power sector.

Besides investing in new plants, L&T is commissioning 1,500 mw power plant in Punjab and has set vision to commission additional 5,500 mw thermal and hydro power generation capacities by 2015. L&T’s power equipment making plants too would be expanded in phases. It is also going expand its two port facilities and commission a shipyard at Chennai. The company is also working on five road projects of the state and centre governments in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Nr Naik was in Surat to kick off commissioning of proposed steel manufacturing and heavy forging plant at Hazira in collaboration with central government undertaking Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited for commissioning and operating nuclear power plants. Mr Naik stated that L&T is confident to even export nuclear power equipment after proving itself in India. Proposed facilities will have capacity to produce ingots weighing up to 600 million tonnes each and a world’s largest heavy forge shop. It will enable L&T to enter into the exclusive club of manufacturers with an integrated capability covering entire range from melting of steel to finished products.

Meanwhile, Mr Naik China is systematically eliminating our manufacturing industry with its subsidy structure that allows it to offer products 25% cheaper. “Strong company like L&T would survive but we are concerned about the small players. Indian government should impose anti dumping duty on Chinese goods to protect local manufacturers,” said Mr Naik.

He expressed his concerns over power generation equipment for 50,000 mw capacity to China from India.

@Kansu

Yes, our companies have tremendous record of building nuclear power plants independently.

And we can surely help our friend Turkey and Turkey can become independent in nuclear power generation.

Only thing is that our companies and companies from our friends like France, Russia are very busy at the moment because of setting up of record number of Nuclear Power Plants in India.

As You must know our fast growing economy demands more and more power.

So briefly,
We can say that the common point of Turkey and India is the Thorium reserves. As far as i know India is the only country who has a plan and a proper strategy to use its Thorium reserves. but is there any reactors in India proved itself?
And here the answer of my 2. question; Turkey wants to cooperate with India because we need an independent energy strategy and we have aim of using our thorium reserves and we need to use the experiences and technical advancement of India on this field.
But there is one more question of mine. there are just a few examples of Thourium reactors in the world. Whats the level of india in Thorium reactor researches. and which reactor type will be used in future?

PHWR type CANDU? PBMR or Carlo Rubbia's EA? (i even dont mention PWR because of its high expenses, the cost of electiric produced in PWHR type CANDU is cheaper, also construction a PHWR is 20% cheaper than a PWR. correct me if i m mistaken.)

i thank everybody answering this thread. Mr. X and shaurabh, you helped me alot and gave me a new vision. i really dont know how to thank you...

Brother,

Energy independence is now India’s first and highest priority.

It is India's stratergy to go for the nuclear deal with diffrent countries.

We are just about to become the first country and near the breakthrough in self relient in nuclear fuel supply.

It is very complex topic so please spare some time.

Nuclear Power in India

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), (Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India) under the direct control of the Prime Minister of India has formulated an approach and perspective on the nuclear energy resource.

Their three stage nuclear program calls for setting up of natural uranium fuelled Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) in the first stage,

Fast Breeder Reactors utilizing a uranium-plutonium fuel cycle in the second stage,

and Breeder Reactors utilizing thorium fuel in the third stage. India’s natural uranium deficiency has resulted in a commitment to this ambitious, technically challenging three-stage program designed to exploit the country’s thorium reserves, which at an estimated 290,000 metric tons are the second largest in the world.
India’s Coalition for Nuclear
Disarmament & Peace

According to the Indian government’s official view, nuclear power for civil use is well established in India. Its civil nuclear strategy has been directed towards complete independence in the nuclear fuel cycle. This self-sufficiency extends from uranium exploration and mining through fuel fabrication, heavy water production, reactor design and construction, to reprocessing and waste management. The Atomic Energy Establishment was set up at Trombay in 1957 and renamed as Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre ( BARC )) ten years later. The first PHWR, the Rawatbhata-1 that had Canada’s Douglas Point reactor as a reference unit, was built as a collaborative venture between Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL) and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) (Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL)). It commissioned in 1973 and was duplicated Subsequent indigenous PHWR development has been based on these units. The Rawatbhata-2 that commissioned in 1981 was also built by Canada. The NPCIL is responsible for design, construction, commissioning and operation of thermal nuclear power plants. The ten 220 MWe PHWRs (202 MWe each) were indigenously designed and constructed by NPCIL, based on Canadian design.

So, by above you can guess India is working on a long term strategy to become fully independent in nuclear fuel and to utilize our thorium reserves that re 2nd largest in the world.:yahoo::yahoo:

Also, India will export nuclear power plants and nuclear fuel in future.

. .
Also, India is tieing up with diffrent countries for uranium supply.

Govt. of France and Russia are guaranteeing uranium supply for life time with the full permission to recycle the uranium for reuse.
