What's new

Turkey new heavy chopper T-929

so u mean to say americans with all the technology made a radar 5 times less range and 4 times heavier while turkish guys made a hellicopter radar almost same range as f16 radar ok first ever attempt?

Probably due to longbow being conventional mechanical radar and MILDAR might AESA?

LONGBOW Radar is from 1990s
MILDAR is from 2010s

as like 450 km Turkish new CAFRAD naval AESA Radar to be superior to 190 km American AN/SPY-1D PESA Radar on American , S.Korean , Japanese , Spanish , Australian Destroyers

but AN/SPY-6 AESA Radar is the latest technology Radar

MILDAR = Millimeter Wave Radar
no the performance specs provided for MILDAR is incorrect or overly optimistic.
Its common sense really, millimeter wave radar is short ranged because its limited by atmospheric attenuation. Perhaps the specs the Turks provided was measured in vacuum.

Source for 190km range?

Who cares? best ATGM we have has the range of 8 kilometers... I'm sure a JAGM equivalent longer range thing will come up but even then we're talking 15-16 kilometers.

ultra light weight though.. has the radar technology come along so far since the longbow was made?

Apache AH 64 E struck a moving target 32 km away. Beyond the range of its on longbow radar today we speak of cooperative target engagement so the platform isn't limited by onboard sensors.

APG78 v6 longbow the latest variant became operational in 2019 so when longbow was first made is irrelevant.

Edit: the APG 78 does not weight 200+ kg, I think you are comparing apples to watermelons.
For some perspective, the Su30 MKI BARS radar weighs 650 kg.

That's cool but with what? Brimstone?

Spike NLOS
Interesting, thanks

Network centric warfare is such a cool concept.

But If you give the army missiles that can hit targets 32 kilometers away, they will eventually want radars that can see that far. A different wavelength maybe. I don't know.

Maybe Longbow has some feature that MİLDAR doesn't... that makes it heavier? I'm puzzled.

Since that chart falsely states Longbow as having 12kilometers of range when in reality it's 16km. I think we can just discard it as false information. Doesn't cite any sources either. I'll ask a mod to remove it.

Light Weight, Small Size, Effective Range
Its power amplifiers incorporate solid-state technology.

and during the tests, MILDAR Radar managed to reach up to a 27km range in clear conditions.
on the other hand new LONGBOW version managed to reach up to a 16km range in clear conditions

AH-64D Apache has LONGBOW Radar with range of 8-12 km ( air and land targets )
AH-64E Guardian has new LONGBOW’s Version 6 Radar with the new software modes and functions

MILDAR enhances the lethality and survivability of the platform during combat when it operates integrated with the weapons and other sensor systems onboard transforming the helicopter into a significant force multiplier in the battlefield

MILDAR Radar has also cooperative engagement capability
Turkey needs to finish TEMREN-II missile project with range of up to 30 km ( based on MIZRAK anti tank Missile )

The weight of the LONGBOW radar mounted above the mast is 136kg and the total weight on the Helicopter with other sub-systems is 227kg

MILDAR is more lighter than LONGBOW

so American AH-64 has LONGBOW Radar
French-German TIGER doesnt have fire control Radar
İtalian AW-129 or AW-249 doesnt have fire control Radar
Russian KA-52 has ARBALET Radar
China has its own YH fire control Radar project for Attack Helicopters

Turkey will be one of 4 countries in the world that will use its own fire control Radar on its own Attack Helicopter

Stick with Indian issues, "Bob". You have little if any clue.
MOTOR SICH says VK-2500-03 is one of the world’s best turboshafts as regards its fuel efficiency and weight performances

operating the base engine along with applying an up-to-date control system have enabled to raise operating performances and ensure high dependability and extensive service life

and certificated in China, South Korea, Brazil

Very well-proven and reliable in the following heli platforms (esp. the Mi-17 and Mi-171 variants), and lately, because of quality and precision improvements, MTBO figures have improved quite a bit reportedly.
