What's new

Turkey lifts ban on head scarf in Army for female soldiers.

No, it was not "those guys" who said that. It was YOU who said we were just Arabs and now becoming who we really are.

Anyways, I will let @cabatli_53 decide who said what and who insulted who and who has broken which rules of which forum.
Yeah.. as you wish... Using @cabatli_53 precious time for such trivial things. So if I did wrong and that you did right, I shall Accept my punition.
Best regards.

Ottoman Empire legalized homosexuality in 1850's and these nutheads say "we were just Arabs and now we are just returning to who we really are"...
I am done.........

Whao really ? I never hear about a Turk who say "we were just Arab.......". Never.
But I often hear people accusing the govt to transform Turkey into SA, Iran.....so many time this become bothersome.

Like you said Otoman Empire was very liberall country in this time, and before the 19 siecle we were more liberal than any western country too....so why hell some people can even think Turkey will transform into SA ? Nonsens.

I was not talking about any Turks, but in fact "foreigners" here as I specifically outlined. Maybe you ignored them and don't see their posts idk.

About the topic, if the design is made efficient for mission effectiveness, then headscarves in military won't be a problem whatsoever.

Western militaries care efficiency more than anything else as that is what determines the winners and losers on a battlefield.

So I believe if they ever thought this practicing would turn out to lower army's efficiency, I think they wouldn't have allowed it in the first place.

As a Kemalist I think this practicing will turn out just fine.

Sometimes I wonder are Paks really our friends or not.
Oh come on Neptune. So being friend of Turkey or not is reduced to whether or not you support the headscarf ban? That is a ridicalous proposition. There are clearly two streams of thought inside Turkey - for now let us overlook which stream has electoral majority. This is a fact and is even evident on PDF - notwithstanding the claim by one faction that they are being discriminated in these forums.

This is analogous to the democrat/republican divide in US. Being open to republicans can't be used by democrat supporters as a basis to argue Anti-Americanism.

*For those who will say as a outsider I can't know what is going on in Turkey I would like them to note a few things. First as a principle this is nonsense. If this was accepted then nobody could ever comment on anything other than the subject they are expert on. Second it is not as if outsiders do not have the faculties to understand what is going on inside Turkey - the country is not some especial Rubik's Cube enigma that requires Einstein to figure out. I have been provided with very detailed, referanced thesis by a Turk that explores the history of Turkish politics and the faultlines as they exist. I am not saying here that it holds the final truth but it certainly opened my eyes. It appears that the conservative rural Anatolian voters who support AKP are the single largest demography in Turkey. It is they who have provided the 'meat' for generations to the Turkish military. It is their blood that has been spilled in huge quantities on the battlefield. I am sure there are other works that draw a differant picture but that is how it is in this world - there are always two sides to the coin. Therefore I can't ignore such a large Turkish demography. To do that would be a extreme act of unfriendliness toward Turkey. Freedom of thought and speech entails the right to your opinion and all opinions. There is no one truth universal to all.

If you could show that this stream of thought in Turkey (which has been the stock base of the AKP) are a fifth column or some closet Armenian out to destroy the Turkish Republic you could accuse me of supporting Anti-Turkish forces. The reality is these people are the backbone of Turkey and as elections have shown they cannot be ignored.

+ TBH a lot of our former sultans were drinking alcohol, feasting, f*cking and were having a much more liberal life style than their wanna be grandsons today (most of whom have a little knowledge about the Ottoman empire itself, about it's history, about it's glory days, it's social structure and it's decline). The Ottoman Empire (and the Muslim world of the past in general) was a more tolerant and free place than what it's wanna be followers can even imagine but that's a completely different topic.

ps Some foreign idiots around here better first learn how to correctly write the name of our country before giving their opinions about it.

It isn't a full veil - it's a headscarf.

No way would any professional army allow a woman to wear a full veil in battle
As far as they can carry out their activities and maybe even help them from being identified by enemy forces , it should be cool like Arab military women below

That's not Arabs neither "future" turkey... it's Iran , a completly different scenario...
Keep your ground sane...

Good decision. They should be able to wear headscarf as long as it doesn't affect their performance which it doesn't and it doesn't affect the uniform discipline.

.
alot of people are missing the trick here. the lift of this ban did not come from the millitary nor did it come from the supreme court or the parliment for that matter. it came from one person and one person only...

turkey is delicious.

What's your deal with deliberately failing to pronounce the name of our country?
