KARACHI: Turkey has sought its Energy delegation to visit the province of Sindh to further explore investment opportunities in Thar Coal and energy sector of Sindh.

This was expressed by Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Chairman Sindh Board of Investment (SBI), while giving briefing on opportunities and investment potential of energy sector in Sindh during a meeting with Ministry of Energy, Government of Turkey, at the office of Ministry of Energy, Government of Turkey, Ankara.

Speaking on the occasion, Motiwala said that SBI welcomed kind cooperation and facilitation from Turkish brothers. He invited Turkish investors to come and invest in Sindh, which could become future power house of world due to huge coal reserves, wind corridor and availability of Sunlight round the year to produce solar energy. He further instilled that Sindh is also blessed with the world’s best wind corridor, which has average wind speed of 7-8 m/sec. Two companies M/s Zorlu and M/s Fina of Turkey had already invested in Wind Energy Power Project in Thatta, district of Sindh. Seriously stop letting foreign companies invest in natural resource, these kinds of industries should be federalized and not privatized I think it was Musharraf who privatized oil and gas industry to allow capital to come in and get the industry going but it means natural resources are also partially in the hands of other foreign companies.

Well waiting from last 2 years our top scientist and engineers working very hard but we haven't produce 10MW from Thar coal yet so let them in for investment, its a coal after all the sooner we get over this energy crises the better it is.

Turkey is like all over Pakistan now days. Its good to see them but not always. I think we have enough manpower, especially overseas Pakistanis who have the capital and as well as technical experience. Just think about it. There is no loss in that.

It is good to invite brotherly country to invest in Pakistan

Not in natural resources or gas and oil industry no foreign country or foreign corporation should be allowed to invest and purchase ownership of these natural resources.

Then there should be a contract limitation of x years and then contract ends.

Our leaders are corrupt so it is better to outsource but specific time u right and more own benefits

Natural resources are only resources when you can get them out and process them otherwise they are nothing - investors, whether domestic or foreign are just investors - lets not make simple business into a marxist conspiracy

Thank the almighty, some rational thinking!

True, that's why Pakistan needs to do something about it and invest with state subsidies, if Government can give money to military it can invest in coal industry, selling out national assets to foreigners is harmful for long term economic growth. It has nothing to do with a Marxist conspiracy, its privatization is the problem here.

In the future these kinds of foreign acquisitions lead to foreign exploitation of national assets.

You want to sell the gas and oil fields/mines/assets to foreign companies as well? What about gold, copper, and other elements lets privatize them as well?

Governments that are in the business of being in business, generally create corruption in society and loss making enterprises - you may not realize but govt has not funded coal power generation as it had agreed to, and now you wish to hold hostage the armed forces funding so that yet another loss making enterprise can be funded by the public treasury? Remember PIA, Railways, Pakistan Steel, WAPDA etc etc

Foreign exploitation? Is that different from just plain exploitation? We have to exploit natural resources, right? Should we not use those who have experience and are good at it? It's just business, what this stuff about "foreign exploitation"? I mean if it can be done by a Pakistani company all the better, we'll have domestic exploitation.

Gold and Oil and Gas - look, one more time, resources are nothing unless exploited, think business, not marxism not nationalism, business.

There is a reason why investment in infrastructure is sought and when it is from foreign source, it is more than appreciated.

Infrastructure, remains here and give boost to secondary industries.. too.

It was very very stupid call by Iftikhar Choudary. to turn back the steel mill investor, upon political support of Imran Khan and Sharif family.

It has been witnessed that same investor, put up a new steel plant, using worlds latest technology, but targeted by PPP regime even more... the salvation came upon ... by pleasing, anti Pakistan states and local mafia.
About $400 million were distributed contracts, until than plant remain at stand still for 3-4 years.

I was shocked to see the triangle of co-operation among Pakistan's main stream political parties, to black mail investors on basis of religious affiliations.

Not good sign!

We need investment in industries.
