Turkey changes country's name to Turkiye


Call it a rebrand, call it national pride but don't call it "Turkey" anymore.

The country's spelling has been changed to Turkiye because it "represents and expresses the culture, civilization and values of the Turkish nation in the best way," the country said in an announcement.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the name change in early December.

"Made in Turkiye" will now appear on all of the country's exports. The country's tourism website, GoTurkiye.com, has undergone the rebranding.

Nope, and I don't have to have the same thought either.
Plus, hypothetically, that would be a real name change. This one is mostly a change in spelling. If Pakistan tomorrow changes its name to Pashtustan, then that would be a real change of name. But if Pakistan asks to be spelled as Pakestan, that wouldn't really be a change of name, but rather a change in spelling.

To me it's more like they insist you call their country by it's correct name just like what we did 80 years ago. Western countries have a bad hobbit of distorting the name of foreign countries or worse call them by fake name .

It has nothing to do with Western countries.
We use Yunan to refer to Greece even though Ionia wasn't a major part of the Hellenic culture. We use Lehestan to refer to Poland because of Lechia, even though Poles do not want to be called that. We use Alman to refer to Germany and I'm sure Germans don't approve that either. We call both orange and Portugal as "porteghal" in our language. It's just a cultural thing. We don't do it to insult the Portuguese people.

If there is no typo, you explain what your choice means and your purpose. 'Erdo, NATO, a few stupid thoughts', and sayin, yes these are my legitimate reasons to calling your country as turkey...

(btw, saying Ottoman does not and will not connote positive things for Turks. The fact that I have to write this in almost every thread must be an indication of how powerful an anti-propaganda tool it has turned into.)

Frankly, it doesn't matter to me. I don't have enough inferiority complex to attack your country with your style. If anyone wants, ofc can continue to say Turkey (which is completely wrong as pronounce) And also, anyone who wishes can ignore even Turkish and look at Italian, Spanish, French or even Persian for how they calling Turkish state.
