TÜBİTAK-SAGE Submarine Weapon Test Infrastructure (DATA)

Reflecting Turkiye's understanding of protecting its rights and interests in the seas, Mavi Vatan has gained a new test capability for submarines. Turkiye's first submarine test infrastructure (DATA) was implemented by TÜBİTAK Defense Industry Research and Development Institute (SAGE). As a test platform, DATA can test and simulate submarine launched missiles and munitions without the need for a submarine.

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank inaugurated DATA. Stating that DATA is a system designed, implemented and produced by Turkish engineers and technicians, Minister Varank said, “DATA will accelerate the development processes of strategic munitions. From now on, the world will talk about our new missiles that our submarines will use.” said.

After the opening, a test launch was made with the command of Minister Varank from the underwater test facility. After the successful of tests, Minister Varank congratulated the DATA team and said, "I hope Turkiyey's deterrence will increase much more with the capabilities here."

DATA, which will enable the testing of submarine munitions without being launch from a submarine, was developed in an identical manner to the launch system of moderns submarines such Gür and Preveze class. DATA, which has the opportunity to missile tests to a depth more than 60 meters of under water, can also be controlled from land station. A safe and controlled test environment is provided by the numerous sensors in DATA, while tests takes place quickly and at low cost compared to conventional submarine stationed tests.

Highlights from Minister Varank's speech: "In the submarine test infrastructure developed in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense, the Presidency of Defense Industry and our Naval Forces under the coordination of TÜBİTAK SAGE, all missile systems and munitions launched from the submarine to the air, land or sea surface can be tested quickly and easily without the need for a submarine. This infrastructure will accelerate the development processes of important munitions, including SLCM, that will be used by submarines."

"TÜBİTAK SAGE has different submarine-based missile projects, some of which are publicly known and some are not. Hopefully, with the infrastructure here, we will be able to easily test those missile systems. But besides this, different defense industry companies and our navy will be able to carry out all the tests they will do here, without the need for a submarine, with this system we have gained."
