TTP commander Sajna (possibly) reported killed in US drone strike in Afghanistan

If this news turns out to be true then it would be a huge blow for TTP. He was one of the most lethal commanders they had. Although it may also mean that the mehsuds will now end their differences and united under the banner of Shehryar mehsud.

ISLAMABAD: An American drone strike on Wednesday killed a senior commander of the Pakistani Taliban in Afghanistan, near the border with the North Waziristan region of Pakistan, according to Pakistani intelligence officials in the tribal belt.

The commander, Khan Sayed, also known as Sajna, led a breakaway faction of the Pakistani Taliban.

Former TTP leader Shahidullah Shahid killed in US drone strike

The drone strike occurred in the Damma region in Khost Province, near Shahadianu Patala, a Pakistani town in North Waziristan, the Pakistani intelligence officials said. They said the strike had killed 12 other militants and wounded 20.

Another Pakistani intelligence official, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, also reported that the commander had been killed in the strike.

The Pakistani officials’ claims have not yet been independently confirmed, partly because of the remoteness of the site and the restrictions on journalists’ access to the area. There was also no immediate comment from American officials, who do not typically comment publicly on drone strikes.

Afghan Taliban deny reports of joining hands with TTP

According to local elders, Taliban commanders were meeting to resolve the growing differences among the various Taliban offshoots when the drone strike took place.

“Sajna was a leading figure of the Pakistan Taliban,” said a senior Peshawar-based Pakistani military official who agreed to discuss the commander, a founding member of Tehreek-e-Taliban, the umbrella organization known as the Pakistani Taliban that was formed in 2007 and has been carrying out a bloody insurgency in Pakistan. “Both Pakistani security forces and Americans were after him for long time,” the military official added.

If the commander’s death is confirmed, “it would certainly be a big blow to the Taliban, both in Pakistan and Afghanistan,” said another Pakistani Taliban commander who gave an interview by phone on the condition that his name not be used.

Islamic State leader Hafiz Saeed killed in US drone strike

In 2014, Sajna publicly rejected the Pakistani Taliban’s leader, Maulana Fazlullah, and said his faction would continue to fight on its own. The feud erupted after an American drone strike killed Mr. Fazlullah’s predecessor, Hakimullah Mehsud. Sajna said in a statement that he was leaving because “the present leadership has lost its path.”

The number of American drone strikes in Pakistan’s tribal area has sharply declined in recent months. The Pakistani military has also recently developed its own drone, which is being used for both aerial surveillance and missile attacks.

Sajna is already killed & that also months ago. He was killed in an artillery strike, even though he was not the target, it was by chance.

What i have noted is constant incorrect reports over the killing of commanders. It was stated several times that both Hakimullah and Baitullah had been killed only to be proven wrong. That is why I have changed the heading the word possibly even though whenever the media reports on this topic and no matter how many times they say the commander is dead-they believe it is right.

Do note that this was also the case with Ilyas Kashmiri

Sir, most of the times, they get information from human intel on the ground or from communications intercept and based on that they target the location. These kind of news items are deliberate so that it reaches the enemy and they start chating about it and through that the intel guys try to know if their hit was successful or not. And if the target tries to lay low out of fear that he will be again attacked, then his disappearance leads to unrest among his men which leads to their low moral.

Sajna died months ago, but intstead of taking the credit they are trying to blame it on a US drone.

Aisa bhi howaa hai kae drone hum nae kiyaa and ilzam US per laga diyaa. :)

It wasn't a aerial strike. There was some artillery fire on some location to soften it up and in that he got hit and purely by chance. Even the army guys came to know later of the huge success.

Why we don't like to have war trophies ?

Bara simple answer hai bhai, thoraa soch looo, answer bhi mil jayee ga.

I hope what you are saying is true. There is no way to confirm it though. I personally want us Pakistanis to kill and murder Taliban leaders as they are our enemies and drained our Pakistani blood. Vengeance should be ours.

It is our task, no one elses to guard our interests and I would have liked if we went to Afghanistan for Fazlullah. However most TTP commanders from Nek Muhammed to Sajna are claimed to be killed by US drone strikes and it is believed that is done at a time they have been signing peace deals with us pakistanis. This was especially the case with Nek Muhammed. I hope we suceed in this war because our performance was better earlier. We arrested Khalid Sheikh Muhammed, Ramzi Yousuf and killed Abdullah Mehsud. I don't know what went wrong later on. We don't have many commanders killed by us though there are rumors and beliefs that our fire and steel killed them.

I got it but the joy we miss because of that is more.

I know, but all we hear is they were killed in drone strikes. I wanted our planes or drones to have killed them. Taliban is a major enemy and their blood should be on our hands. Its an honor personally-us killing those militants.

Agreed, we have killed many of their leaders, but prb is you cut one head, 2 may more arise as said by Hydra :)

We have achieved a lot in last 2 years, now its time for the civil admin to take over and start rebuilding and army should not let them come back. Whenever wherever they are identified they should be killed, just like how Punjab Police is doing.

Senior TTP commander Sajna reported killed in US drone strike in Afghanistan

KARACHI: Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander Khan Saeed 'Sajna' was reported killed in a United States (US) drone strike in Afghanistan, the New York Times reports.

At least 12 other militants were killed and 20 had been wounded in the drone strike which took place in Afghanistan's Khost province near the shared border with North Waziristan, the NYT quoted a Pakistani intelligence official as saying.

The NYT report said the death of Sajna was confirmed by another Pakistani intelligence who requested anonymity.

Local elders claimed the drone strikes took place during a meeting to resolve differences between various factions of the Taliban.

The claims, however, have not yet been independently verified. Tracking of drone strikes in Afghanistan is patchy since many of them take place in remote regions. There has also been no comment on the matter as yet from American officials, who do not typically comment publicly on drone strikes.

The death has not yet been denied so far by the Mehsud faction of the TTP which Sajna heads.

Sajna in 2014 had publicly rejected the TTP's 'central' leader Mullah Fazlullah, saying his own faction would continue fighting by itself, the NYT reported. The break from the central faction occurred after former TTP leader Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a US drone strike. Sajna said he made the decision to separate because "the present leadership has lost its path".

A Peshawar-based military official told the NYT that Sajna was a leading figure of the TTP and that both Pakistani and American security forces were after him for a long time.
