TTP commander Sajna (possibly) reported killed in US drone strike in Afghanistan

.
Sajna group was a main player in Karachi too. Now Shawal should fall like Candy in our hands if the news is true.

From what I understand about TTP's ideology ; they do not get effected by removal of a head or two. A new one is ready to take his seat. Succession planning and limited to nil reliance on names is their key to success I guess.

What it does effect is the impact on their donors. They will take some time in gauging his reliability and ability. However, the flip side of it is that the new comer will leave no stone unturned in winning the confidence of the donors. So, PA needs to be more vigilant and ISI needs to see for loop holes in their ranks to exploit.

After a few weeks. It would be business as usual and a new name would ride on top of the wanted list!

Well removing a head does matters sometimes, as new head when appointed leads to division, which weakens them. Mullah Omar dead and now we see internal conflict among the Taliban, Hakeem Ullah Mehsud dead which lead to new factions created and their overall effectiveness as a single force reduced.

That is one way to look at it. However, on the other hand it should be noted that it was the killing of former cheif Hakeemullah that really served a crushing blow to TTP. The internal infighting and the rifts between different factions inside the TTP left them largely encumbered. They havent been able to recover from that ever since. Even now many groups dont consider Fazlullah their leader, for instance IMU which was a core part of TTP left them and joined ISIS. The Meshuds themselves were split among those who supported Sajna and those who were with Shahyar meshud.

TTP is an umberalla organization, it counts on its Ameer to inspire other groups to fall in line. The best way is to cut the serpent from its head.

The commander of Pakistani armed forces in the Shawal valley revealed in an interview that US military forces often attack militant positions and hideouts in North Waziristan (using drones) independently from Pakistani military operations in the same region. It is possible that some kind of understanding exists between the two nations regarding these matters.

The commander also revealed that Sajna group was operating in these areas and fought Pakistani armed forces. Therefore, if the leader of this group is dead, then this is a breakthrough and morale booster.
