Taiwan has one of the world's best militaries and they have the advantage of defending their home turf. China will not be able to land troops and crafts fast enough to defeat and take Taiwan, let alone in Six Days. Taking an island is not the same as a land war. If Taiwan was attached to China through a land border, then China could just swarm Taiwan but that's not the case.

Plus there is governing Taiwan, which China will not be able to do. A people already accustomed to freedom will not just submit to tyranny.
