Trump ponders crackdown on Pakistan over terror ties despite experts' warnings

The only thing incorrect around here is your understanding of the entire South East Asian containment strategy. Now that the discussion has become detracked anyway, can you please tell me that if no one in the USA indeed blamed Laos for being proxy to the VC and NVA, then why did the US go and bomb the country at the rate of 8 bombs per minute?

Laos was being used by the North Vietnamese and Vietcong as a supply route. Everyone in the Pentagon realized Laos government was too weak to stop them

There is a nominal right wing government in Laos until 1975. Why would USA blame an anti-communist government for communist insurgency ?

They were fighting against the Pathet Lao who although not part of the government, wielded significant power in the country because the Royal Laotian Government was limited in its authority to the capital and some urban centers. The Pathet Lao was sympathetic to the NVA and VC.

A number of times, the inability of the US to stop movement along the Ho Chi Minh was chalked up in turn, to the inability of the Royal Laotian Government and the Khmer Republic (Cambodia).

It was this shirking of responsibility that I was inferring to.

No one has accused Royal Laotian Government and Khmer Republic of playing a double game in the 1970s
Pakistan is being accused of playing a double game here.

The second problem with the analogy is Laos/Cambodia are tiny population wise compared to Vietnam.
Pakistan dwarfs Afghanistan. While Afghanistan is important I can argue Pakistan is more important.

We need a rethink on our US relation, one based on equality and mutual respect. If the US lawmakers threaten us, we threaten back tit for tat. As long as the US is in Afghanistan, they need us for access and that's our strongest trumpcard. Russia and Iran will not (re)open their space for US transport, there are no alternatives.

USA is here to stay in the region .

Personally I think its a grand idea and situation.

Pakistan and a Taliban led Afghanistan is a nightmare scenario for Both India & THE WESTERN world.

We have Islamic lunatics killing civillians all over Europe in the name of ISIS and the last the world needs is regrowth of Taliban.

AND IN THE MIDDLE of it ALL.............. PAKISTAN and its military led total brainwashed mindset of INDIA AND KASHMIR and stopping INDIAN perceived hegomoney

ITS A MESS

Best buddy of India is also betting on Taliban to get rid of ISIS from Afghanistan and for that they are getting closer to them and bringing other Uzbek and Tajik groups together to bring peace in Afghanistan.

They want closer cooperation with Pakistan in Afghanistan and possibly joint Intelligence and military operations are also on the table.

. . .
There is no proof for any of the above

Clueless, as expected.

And what happened at the Murree Peace Process is all over the news.

To be honest, this is not the time to give up on Afghanistan.

Trump administration is mulling a new strategy for Afghanistan. Let us see if it delivers.

I've heard these words repeated so many times in the last five decades.

not accused but caught.

Technically Trump said nothing new and nothing was affirmed by the immediate conciliatory statements that came out the same day. Trump did what he does best, make a statement to appease the public and then forget all about it.
In reality, India threw up some money which trump will use in his ongoing battle for keeping his original support base on his side.
If anything, Trump screwed Modi's ambition for what this trip was to be which culminated in that really awkward hug.

The actual power to change policy lies with congress and senate where the war is really raging with lobbyists; a war Pakistan is losing.

You are confusing fiction with facts.

The Kunduz airlift is not fiction

I am not sure I want to waste any capital hugging Trump. In that sense Modi mission was a waste. In the event Trump sticks around for 4 years Modi has a friend in the white house. Trump is quite loyal to his friends to the point of self-destruction.

Better start looking for Elvis, Bigfoot and Loch Ness Monster.
