Trump Administration to Hold Migrant Children at Base That Served as WWII Japanese Internment Camp

BY W.J. HENNIGAN
JUNE 11, 2019
The Trump Administration has opted to use an Army base in Oklahoma to hold growing numbers of immigrant children in its custody after running out of room at government shelters.

Fort Sill, an 150-year-old installation once used as an internment camp for Japanese-Americans during World War II, has been selected to detain 1,400 children until they can be given to an adult relative, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The agency said Fort Sill will be used “as a temporary emergency influx shelter” to help ease the burden on the government as it prepares to house a record number of minors even though it already operates about 168 facilities and programs in 23 states.

Health and Human Services said in a statement that it has taken about 40,900 children into custody through April 30. That’s a 57% increase from last year, which is a rate on-pace to surpass the record figures in 2016, when 59,171 minors were taken into custody. The agency had assessed two other military bases before selecting Fort Sill.

The children would be held inside facilities that are separate from the general on-base population. HHS personnel, not American troops, will oversee them.

Using military bases in this way is not new. In 2014, the Obama Administration placed around 7,700 migrant children on bases in Texas, California and Oklahoma, including Fort Sill. The temporary shelters were shuttered after four months. Last year, the government evaluated several military bases to shelter migrants, but ultimately decided not to use the facilities.

However, it appears unavoidable this year. Apprehensions of children at the border are already nearing record numbers. U.S. Customs and Border Protection released data last week that showed the figures had skyrocketed to 56,278 at the end of May, a 74% increase over last year. The influx of migrants, mainly from Central America, is straining an already exhausted system, U.S. officials say. Several children have died while in U.S. custody since last year.

Fort Sill, located southwest of Oklahoma City, was one of several internment camps where Japanese-Americans were held during World War II. Between 1942 and 1946, the U.S. government forcibly removed an estimated 120,000 men, women and children from their homes and incarcerated them across the country. Fort Sill was later used to hold German prisoners of war.

No suprise here. The so called USA invented concentration camps. The so called USA is the Empire of Evil. They exterminated Native Americans, they founded Hitler, they dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they founded Daesh, they torture people, they spy, they kill ...
The sooner US Empire of Evil collapses the better for the world.

Oh LOL!!! I suggest you look up the dates of when the concentration camps were opened in Poland. They pre-date the Pearl Harbor attack.

Many of the kids jumped the fence without parents. They are looking for their parents in foreign countries.
Why don't you accept it , that your country is abusing those Children btw when it comes to Uyghur concentration camps ( which i don't believe ) the west starts shouting , i suggest you look at the crimes of your own country first .... its a shame that a super power that has influence over half of the world can't even safeguard its borders ...

.
am sure that is what the medias keep telling you

no parent would ever do that

These aren’t all 5 year olds. Plenty of them are under 21 teenagers running away from poverty.

Please enlighten us with your golden plan of what to do with thousands of young teenagers who jump the fence with no parents? We are not exactly the first country to deal with this..hint..hint.

Maybe try deploying troops and make it a proper military controlled border , so that nobody crosses it in the first place ...

You’d make Trump proud! He has the same opinion as you.

Just throw the 15yr old back over the fence into the desert to starve and die of thirst. Let the bodies pile up on the Mexican side.

I hate trump but every country has the right to safeguard its borders and i'm not talking about throwing them , i am saying that they should be returned to mexico and they should take their responsibility ... liberalism does'nt get you anywhere

Mexico says it’s not their problem since they aren’t Mexican citizens. The Mexicans jumpers aren’t the real problem..it’s all the other countries using Mexico as a pass-thru.

You see the issue now?

Trump is trying to get Mexico to stop people at its southern border so they won’t pass through it to its northern border with the US.

The so called USA was inventor of concentration camps:

Hitler Said to Have Been Inspired by US Indian Reservation System

Hitler admired the US system, while the 'greatest nation' won't recognize its past

It was 72 years ago that the imprisoned and starved and viciously battered victims of Hitler and his Nazi thugs were liberated by Soviet troops.

Hitler – the coward, who’d later commit suicide rather than face the music – was incontrovertibly one of the world’s most brutal and bloodthirsty bastards to ever walk the globe.

Yet, little is it known that he was also a plagiarist.

The idea of a prison camp – specifically Auschwitz, in Oświęcim, Poland – where Hitler’s soldiers would shoot, hang, poison, mutilate and starve men, women and children en mass was not an idea Hitler, the bigot, came up with on his own. In fact, the Pulitzer-Prize winning biographer John Toland wrote that Hitler was inspired in part by the Indian reservation system – a creation of the United States.

“Hitler’s concept of concentration camps as well as the practicality of genocide owed much, so he claimed, to his studies of English and United States history,” Toland wrote in his book, Adolf Hitler: The Definitive Biography. “He admired the camps for Boer prisoners in South Africa and for the Indians in the wild west; and often praised to his inner circle the efficiency of America’s extermination—by starvation and uneven combat—of the red savages who could not be tamed by captivity.”

Now, of course, it is not in the best national interest of the U.S. to recognize such a realization as presented by Toland. As I’ve said time and again, you cannot be the greatest nation in the world if you’re guilty of genocide – and especially if your country’s policies were the inspiration that engineered one of the world’s most devastating genocides.

And, of course, the evidence is readily available to those who’d seek it that European settlers (i.e. invaders who would later divorce themselves from their motherland, renaming each other “Americans”) did, in fact, set into motion a detailed template – justifications (Divine Right), policies (Indian Removal), procedures (Wounded Knee) – for Hitler to follow.

Indeed, people are wont to argue that plague and disease killed Native Americans in great numbers, which is true – Native Americans did die in mass numbers as a result of European pestilences and our biological inability to fight off these foreign microbes. But that argument inherently ignores the well-documented extermination policies set forth by the United States.

In fact, President Thomas Jefferson himself famously said (well, famous throughout Native America) that the “(American Indian has) justified (their own) extermination.” And it was George Washington who thought the only way to kill Native Americans was to rage war on their crops.

There are many similarities in the United State’s attempt to exterminate Native Americans and Hitler’s attempt to exterminate the Jews. Both groups were – and in many ways remain – dehumanized. Both are and were considered to be in the way of so-called progress. In the U.S., officials and citizens even coined it the “Indian problem,” and Hitler famously considered Jews exactly that, his problem, and he charged himself – much like President Andrew Jackson – with the responsibility of eliminating that problem.

Another similarity: there are the deniers of both genocides. In 2012, Colorado Republican State Senator Ellen Roberts would not support a resolution recognizing the genocide of Native Americans because, she said, Indians were not rendered extinct.

“When I look up the word ‘exterminate’ it is to destroy totally,” she argued. “And my problem with this resolution is I thank God that we have not destroyed totally the Native American people. And one of my challenges … is (the) wording; that is as if they are extinct, because they are not.”

The irony here is days prior she signed her name to two resolutions recognizing the Jewish Holocaust and the Armenian genocide.

Steven Spielberg, director of the Holocaust film Schindler’s List, said in a speech that the Jewish people are once again threatened by “the perennial demons of intolerance,” Joanna Berendt of The New York Times reported. “People want to, all over again, strip you of your past, of your story and of your identity,” he said.

Spielberg’s statement applies to Native Americans as well, who are now 1.7-percent of the total U.S. population (new estimates argue that the population of Indigenous Peoples in North American was as high as 123 million prior to European contact).

Oh, and one more thing: Hitler would refer to the Russians as “redskins.
