I would be interested as to who would recognise it. I think most Muslim countries including Pakistan would recognize it. I think most Nato countries would not

We can establish a air base in cyprus make it a total strategic place , very low population anyways , However i think we should move towards a VERY VERY STRONG NAVY AND AIR FORCE but land for me isnt as important , itis but everyone is on land so even in a war all you need is a gun and a tanks etc things that can be replaced quicker but if you airforce is gone and navy especially air force you are knocked out , also we need a SUPER AIR DEFENCE ESPECIALLY COVERING ISTANBUL AND MAJOR CITIES

I think the time has come for Turkey to acquire Nuclear Weapons. The thing is, Turkey is conventionally already a very strong country. All of its neighbours are weaker than Turkey except Russia but this relationship is improving nevertheless. So, to get to the next stage, you need nukes.

I know Turkey already has nukes under NATO nuclear weapon sharing agreement, but those nukes are not under its control.

It may sound strange, but I think we're moving into times where not having nuclear weapon, but still a strong military will get more respect, or at least listened to. In a sense having nuclear weapon result in " more brawns than brains" kind of attitude.

With regard to why OIC hasn't recognized the turkish cypriotic part is probably due to turkish cypriots still struggling economically to stand on its own legs. Also there are political agendas to think of so I guess the OIC countries think that by recognizing the turkish cypriot as a soverign state they'll draw the ire of all western powers. Which is probably true, given the fact that economy & military are used for punishing the countries "they" don't like.

Cuba is an example of this.

Another political aspect of this is the fact that the OIC countries would be doing Turkey a favour by recognizing the turkish cypriotic state, and a favour of such level most definitely needs to be called in simultaniously. So the way I see it, the OIC doesn't really regard the Turkish cypriots to be an unrecognized unfairly treated nation in need of recognition, but more like a golden card that will most definitely ensure the backing of Turkey. On the other hand, it will not take many countries recognition before recognitions of turkish cypriotic state will roll like an avalanche.

The trick to ensure this avalanche is to turn Turkey into an economic giant. And of course a strong military.

However, it doesn't change certain facts of cyprus, the greeks started a military coup, turkey had to walk in to protect the turkish minority, and the problem child who started all this, the greeks, still gets to be recognized internationally and make decisions as if they rule the whole island.

Sometimes I think Turkey should have unleashed their full might, but that would have triggered a military respons from the british, so I guess we did the right thing without going overboard.

Most of the time this is true, I agree with you. The nuclear nations are like a 'club'. It is very difficult to get "accepted" into the club, especially if you are a muslim majority country.

However, acquiring nuclear weapons would give Turkey true independence that it will have to achieve in order to become a great power. You may also argue that having NATO's nuclear weapon is enough, but this means that Turkey's foreign policy cannot be different to that of NATO.

I consider Turkish occupation of Cyprus as obnoxious, from the humanitarian perspective. They carried out ethnic cleansing of Greek Cypriots. Shameful to see a Muslim country commit such acts just because they have the power to do so.

Funny coming from a Russian. It was Turkish Cypriots who were being ethnically cleansed, Turkey merely responded to these atrocities which had been going on for years. And we know what Russia did in Chechnya and Russia's collaboration with Armenia's illegal occupation of Azerbaijani lands. Free Chechnya, free Karabakh now!

Numerous sources testify that Turkey carried out ethnic cleansing of Greek Cypriots, because "might is right". We should not be blinded just because Turkey is a Muslim country. It is very similar to what Israel did. They prevent Greek Cypriots from returning to their homes.
