Defunct Humanity: 'Trikand' is prepeared for launch

The third project 11356 ship 'Trikand' is prepared for launching in 'Yantar' plant (Kaliningrad-Konigsberg, Russia). The 'BrahMos' missiles launchers are already installed on she, reported the workers team newspaper. The next ship will seemingly be a frigate for the Black Sea Navy they said. It would be a smooth transition for 'russificated' 11356 project, initially developed particularly for Indian Navy. The Russian systems will be installed there instead of Indian and Western equipment.

Frigate INS Trikand being built for Indian Navy by Yantar shipyard (JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation) was moved to pre-launching position on Nov 24.

INS Trikand (stands for "bow") is the last ship in the series of three Project 11356 frigates which are built by Yantar shipyard since 2006. First two – INS Teg ("sword") and INS Tarkash ("quiver") have been already launched and are prepared for trials.

Before moving to pre-launching position, the third frigate was armed with BrahMos missile launcher, and equipped with propulsion shafts, screws, and nose fairing with sonar system.

INS Trikand has occupied pre-launching position – that is just the place where the ship will be launched from in March 2011 in accordance with the construction schedule.

Cool Ship.

Btw is it me or does the name of the plant "Yantar" Sounds eerily similar to Sanskrit Yantra (machine/instrument)?

Thus 'Yantar' plant would translate as "Machine plant". What a coincidence! :)

"Yantar" means amber in Russian. Amber has been collected along the Baltic coasts of present day Kaliningrad Oblast since ancient times, and some sites are still worked today although the yield is relatively modest.

Anyway its a good coincidence.

Thank you for the interesting piece of info. Reminded me of the Amber Room from that part of the world (albeit made jointly by German and Russian craftsmen in the 1700s)

We need to follow up on this order with three more frigates of the Talwar class (Krivak III) or better yet build three more of the Shivalik class.

By 2014 we will get 3 stealth DDGs, 9 stealth FFGs and 4 stealth corvettes. Total 16 as well as 2 new aircraft carriers and netcentric force. This is all because of futuristic vision of naval planners.
