TPP failure would cost the US trade dominance

U read the news that many CN companies such as CN steel and textile companies has been moving or investing more VN to prepare for TPP, right ??

So, it means that, in TPP, VN will really able to provide the same logistics and quality workforce as China thanks to many CN companies moving to VN. VNese will have more jobs, US will still get good quality products at low price, some of CN companies still survive cos they move to VN....only CN mainlander suffer job loss and bad economy. :coffee:

You will get foreign investment (especially industry 1.0) with or without the TPP. TPP is not helping you, in fact it is designed not to help you.

I told you, that's the natural progress of regional development. China went through a similar painful development stage. It is normal that basic industries like textile, which is quite polluting and relies on cheap labor for competitiveness, would move to down south.

Taiwan's entire textile industry fled the province in the 90s. Now a similar case with Mainland.

You will definitely benefit from it, say, more than India will. Because you probably have a better logistics and workforce. But, I am not sure you would really catch on a advanced-developing country like China because of automation. Cheap labor is becoming a burden, not a leverage now.

As I see TPP is going to kill what hope remains for Vietnam's economy because it will keep you in a forever stage of underdevelopment. You will NEVER have your own Huawei or Baidu or CRC.

Duterte can stay in one term only, I think so. Following serveys in US: Trump will be loser, Madan Clinton will follow her supporter Obama and hi's policies, there is pivotal opportunity for US global business leadership.

Let's not delve into prophecy. The numbers I see right now suggests that Duterte is enjoying immense popularity. If there would be elections today, he would get a much higher percentage of support.

I am not sure Clinton is madam or not, but if she is elected it will be ore of the same. Remember, current US Asia strategy has been crafted by her. And so far, US Pivot worked miraculously well for China.

I am more worried about her mental and physical condition than China's prospects in Asia and beyond.

There can be no doubt about it, why would Trump enact a plan crafted by Obama in the first place? Now that Trump will be taking office at the White House he will create his own economic plan on how to revive the greatness of America his way. TPP is officially dead, nailed down to the coffin (RIP) it shall not even see the sunlight.

I can imagine @kecho , @Viva_Viet @Viet crying and totally butt hurt, plus the pivot to Asia will take a turn, this is a welcome foreign policy adjustment. China is way too important, he will come to this conclusion. Bashing China is one thing for winning votes but reality dictates that China contributes a lot to American economy. Both China and Russia are looking forward doing more business with Trump whereas Obama and Hillary wants to play the pivot game. I believe he can make some difference and leaving a legacy behind. The 8 years Obama has left many Americans with disappointment so it comes as no surprise many would vote for Trump. Obama promised change but failed to deliver that, feeling fed up they are betting on Trump this time instead.

The biggest losers are Abe and Viets who supported TPP and Hillary. Their hope of containing China just took a steep dive. Even the Pinoys here in PDF are part of the loser group with Duterte criticizing Obama. The time has come for a new chapter in US. Congratulations to president TRUMP

TPP as we know it as a "high standard“ free trade area is gone for good. The extreme neoliberalist dream of creating a sphere of extreme dependency, perpetual poverty and class politics ends at this point before it hatches.

Not only the TPP, which was never born, is prematurely dead, NAFTA is on the line, as well.

Trump, at least in his executive capacity, will want negotiate these agreements once again and from the scratch, to protect US manufacturing and keep jobs at home. There will certainly be trade, and free trade to some degree, but, there will likely be a certain amount of protectionism and regulation.

He will do all he can to keep manufacturing at home and invite more back. This is entirely anti-TPP.

Vietnam and the likes can kiss a goodbye to the dream of replacing China as manufacturing centers; Trumps wants all them back.

Trump's China hostility is entirely economic, hence, can be managed. The US as no more leverage against China than China does against the US. Calling China a currency manipulator will not also work in this new conditions where the Yuan is included in the SDR and becoming an increasingly international currency.

I suspect, currency wars will target countries like Japan and India, which have devalued their currencies to very cheap levels to spur exports. Targeting China would work less efficiently because China has a greater trade penetration than the US does.

China and the US will, I believe, coexist as equals more harmoniously with Trump controlling White House than previously. I am very happy that the "Asia-Pacific focused warmongering Pivoters" are gone in the best disgraceful manner, along with their entire establishment.

I myself still think that US will sign TPP soon, I think US is smart enough to know that they will not able to contain CN without TPP.

Only TPP can kick Cnese product out of US market and push CN economy in deeper trouble when can not sell any valuable things to TPP nations

Bro,your thinking is just like Jpese soldier in WW2, they believed that US soldiers were just play boys, no guts to fight in battle field etc...

And all knew that US throwed 02 nukes to force JP surrender.

You seem to forgot that we fought the US as well. During our war against the US, who was the delutional one?

The US was and is a big country. A big country, even primitive, can still easily beat a highly civilized, but much smaller one with its shear size (and I do not say the US is primitive. In fact, it is highly developed in some areas). Together with high moral ground of the US during the war against fascist Japan, the defeat of Japanese was almost certain. Even Japanese knew that before entering the war.

But now, when other countries, especially China, have escaped centuries of civil wars and feudalism, completed the necessary infrastructure and production facilities, established the legal structure, they can compete on equal footing with the US. Therefore, the situation are very different to the period between 1900 - 1960. More than that, the US has gradually lost the shining moral ground which other countries can respect.

I know politicians like to make 360 turns once they get in office, Trump could fall in line with many of the policies in place. At this point can we rule the TPP dead ?

@TaiShang @Shotgunner51 @LeveragedBuyout @Chinese-Dragon @ahojunk @anon45 @terranMarine @ChineseTiger1986 @Götterdämmerung
yes, in all likelihood it is either dead or pushed back sometime as it is renegotiated...but most likely dead.

Unfortunately there is a real possibility of an early trade war with China, which won't benefit either of our countries. Hopefully that was him speaking as a candidate and not as a president, we won't know until he is in the oval office.

Ok this round goes to you. Let's hope Donald Trump knows what stakes are on the table. If he thinks withdrawal from east Asia will make America great again, then be it.

This round? I believe we Chinese have always got the last laugh against Japan, US, Vietnam and PH. You guys have been defeated over and over again. Abe under Obama's order to buy Diaoyu have gained some chips like a bit more militarization and removal of article 9 but Abe was also forced to crawl on his knees begging China for economic restoration and had to acknowledge the fact that the island was disputed. Obama-Clinton wanted to contain China with TPP and forcing Japan, PH holding military drills together and using the fake international court totally backfired. US chickened after seeing China's display of muscle, Abe hammering China should respect the verdict was ignored by all the countries, PH's new president told Obama to f*ck off. TPP now officially dead, so much for you Viet clowns cheering for Obama's economic plan containing China . And with China's land reclamation in SCS and militarization it is we who has the total victory over US,JP,PH,VN. Now PH and Malaysia wants nothing more than closer economic cooperation with China. Abe trying to convince Duterte to mend ties with US and play the China pivot game didn't go well. Now that Trump is president he will dump Obama-Clinton's China pivot, burn that piece of crap called TPP document, make a new foreign policy with Putin and Xi. Even South Korea's Park is in deep trouble, we can expect its new leader handling the THAAD sensitive issue more appropriately so that China and Russia will be more happy if Trump wishes to restore ties with both Putin and Xi.

Get used to it, Vietnam shall always remain in our shadow as the loser. Luckily VCP is in power and it will always becareful not to make the big boss angry. It sure sucks being humiliated by the big boss and the so called leader of ASEAN who frequently destroy your fishermen's boats

You are too much of yourself that becomes very boring. Vietnam feeling towards China would be in a better shape today if you had not placed a fcking oil rig close to our coast.

I wonder why there are so many chinese clowns like you who make dirty comments and laugh? what is so funny? you watch too much Japanese ****? or bad remembrance of Nanking?

I know you people really suffered badly by the hands of American's use of chemical warfare and napalm bombs. Over a million Viets died horribly still i do not laugh at them. You clowns are just silly when no more argument left you like to change topics. Typical loser mentality, no wonder your pal kecho didn't make any appearance today after the announcement of Trump's victory.

You talk as if you Viets don't insult others, whom are you trying to fool? And yes you contradict yourself all the time you have a inferiority complex i understand that. It's okay you keep it up little Viet friend.
bro, I suggest you wasting time no more with this viet, his world knowledge is 12 years old level, yesterday he posted in viet defense thread that 300000 Viets in CA voting Hillary will help her to win president , why wasting time with a kid?

It's very hard to take you seriously if after the many years living in my country and you still haven't woken up. There are plenty of alternative news networks in German language to get informed, but, oh well, the truth is hard to swallow, particularly for people like you who thought you have escaped communism and now live in a free world just to find out that you are being enslaved by the banking system. Worse, you even by their shadow puppet show that is our democratic voting system.
he is just a 12 year old kid

He has some serious inferiority complex and contradicting himself all the time. I really pity Vietnamese people having people like him. These Viets here repeat the same trash all the time: "we don't care" "we don't care" "we don't care"
If they don't care why bother to respond right? Look at him complaining at the Indons about them destroying their fishing boats. Sometimes saying China is a powerhouse then when he loses the discussion he would say China is a weak country. The contradictions can be seen miles away by everybody here. He makes himself look like a complete fool. Nobody treats these Viets like clown but they make themselves look like clowns. I really pity Vietnam.

Until Vietnamese can counter indo aggression against Vietnamese fishing boat, indo have the upper hand vs Vietnam now
