A 100 member delegation comprising of leading Chinese companies arrived in #Lahore on Tuesday 19th January 2016. The delegation was headed by Mr. Sha Zukang, Chairman Pak-China Friendship Association.

The purpose of the visit was to identify possible areas for collaboration in trade and investment in Pakistan.
The Punjab Board of Investment and Trade and the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly organized “Pakistan – China Business Opportunities Conference” at the Pearl Continental hotel Lahore on January 20th, 2016.

Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, was the key note speaker at the conference. During his speech Honorable CM said, “Punjab is Pakistan’s economic heartland and presents tremendous opportunities for investment which, if fully utilized, will reap rich dividends for investors”.

The Council General of China, Excellency, Yu Boren said, “China Pakistan Economic Corridor, a truly magnificent project, testifies that both Pakistan and China want to play a major role in creating enormous economic opportunities for our people.”

President LCCI, Mr. Sheikh Muhammad Arshad in his remarks stressed upon the need for holding events like investment conference on reciprocal basis to pave the way for much-needed foreign investment in the country.

Mr. Sha Zukang in his speech said, “Pakistan is a brotherly country and his delegation is honored to be in Lahore and hopes that this visit will result in maximum benefits for both countries”.

The Conference was divided into two segments. First half included introductions, orientations and presentations while the second half focused on constructive business engagements with public sector and prominent businessmen from the private sector.

All Government Entities attended the event to highlight prospects and opportunities in Punjab and to facilitate any queries of the foreign and local businessmen.

In addition, PBIT also supervised B2B and G2B sessions focusing on different sectors including energy, mines, health, transport, textiles, agriculture, IT etc.

The delegation visited Islamabad before coming to Lahore, where they discussed business opportunities with the Federal Government. After the conference in Lahore, the delegation will also visit Karachi. This is another key initiative to reap the opportunities presented through China-Pakistan Economic Corridor - CPEC

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said that China is the most reliable friend and always stood with Pakistan and helped it in all respects.

He was speaking at the Pakistan-China Business Opportunities Conference jointly organised by the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

A 100-member Chinese delegation attended the conference while LCCI President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad, Senior Vice President Almas Hyder, Vice President Nasir Saeed spoke on the occasion. Consul General of China in Lahore Yu Boren, Pak-China Friendship Association Chairman Sha Zukang, Provincial Minister Ayesha Ghous Pasha, PBIT Chairman Abdul Basit, former LCCI presidents, senior vice presidents, vice presidents and executive committee members were also present in the conference.

The chief minister said that China was a very important partner in Pakistan’s economic development and bilateral trade.

The involvement of Chinese enterprises both in term of technical and financial assistance in several development projects is reflective of our cordial relations based on mutual trust and sincerity, he added.

Shahbaz termed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as an energy and infrastructure programme with the investment of $46 billion in Pakistan, adding that this is the biggest investment ever made by China in any foreign country. This programme, he said, when completed, would help end power outages in the country, and ensure seamless connectivity between China, South and Central Asia.

He said that investment climate is getting better with every passing day due to best policies of Punjab government and all possible facilities are being provided to foreign investors.

Chinese Consul General Yu Boren said that both Pakistan and China had huge potential to increase bilateral trade, as the existing volume of two-way trade between the two countries is very small when it is compared with the total Chinese business. He said that incentive package and CPEC is enough to make the point that China gives top priority to Pakistan in terms of business and trade.

Pak-China Friendship Association Chairman Sha Zukang spoke highly about Pakistan and said that CPEC would further cement trade and economic ties between the two countries. He said that China-Pakistan relations had become an example of state-to-state relations, adding that both countries looked forward to have further exchanges of visits, to have more high level contacts to promote mutual friendship and cooperation in various fields including politics, economy and people to people contacts.

He said CPEC would be further promoted, particularly cooperation in trade, investment, energy and communications would be strengthened.

LCCI President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad said both the countries not only share borders but also have unanimity of views on various political and economic issues. He said that the two countries have a combined market of more than 1.5 billion people but the trade volume needs to be pushed up.

He suggested that Pakistani material approved from Pakistan Engineering Council should be used for CPEC projects, adding that Chinese technological advancement could help Pakistan overcome economic challenges in a short span of time. He also announced to set a “China Desk” at the LCCI to provide necessary information to the investors. He informed the participants of the conference that LCCI is making all out efforts to bring the private sector of the two friends closure. He said that the LCCI is also organising Chinese language courses for its member so that they could interact with their Chinese counterparts quite easily.

Great Going With China's collaboration Pakistan can really become a power hub it self. Once China's economy matures and their average GDP grows they would need to outsource there some jobs. Pakistan seems to be the best place do it. Together we can rule Asia. :)

You sound so comfortable comparing Punjab and other provinces despite the massive difference in budgets.

I wonder what would happen if Karachi started keeping all the funds it generates? Care to think...?

Let the chinese give permission to study Pakistan system then you ask question what projects they identified then you saw billions dollar projects reports will be in front of you just let them go study education, health, transport, agriculture, energy, engineering, packaging foods, cotton etc then invite them to come invest to those projects then the results will be Economy like Dubai Qatar Kuwait because these countries they give free hand investors to explore opportunities by their own and then come with investment freezones will be available for you where you can open your industries, manufacturing plants, service centers, etc.
